I bought a Fender Rumble 800 Head from Guitar Center online. When I went to pick it up it was just the Head and power cord as it was a demo and only one they had. I had them order one as it includes a nice carrying bag, a footswitch for selecting overdrive and I believe a Speakon cable. I had a Markbass Lil Ninja that started to exibit issues so I traded it in for this one. Anyone else own one. The Video and posted reviews all look very good. Rated 800 watts at 4 or 2 ohms and reportedly handles 2 ohms without issues. Also 8 ohm output at less wattage available.

I think Andy Field might have designed that for Fender before he went to Mesa . Never used the larger class D Rumble amps but have used his earlier and later amps .

I wouldn’t doubt it he did design it. I would have loved to have his Mesa 800 you mentioned. A lot of features plus tube pre. Many amp manufacturers run their 12AX7’s at just enough voltage ( 150vdv) to make them operate but not Andy. His designs put them over 300vdc so you get a warm tone . While the Rumble 800 does not have a tube pre amp it exhibits tube like tone

What cabs are you running with it ? Is it just home use or are you doing rooms with it ? Going through PA or do you have to fill the room ? At home I tend to play pretty quietly or use headphones and have two practise rigs . One at the in-laws and another at home . ( as we look after my mother-in-law we spend a lot of time at the in-laws) but there's nothing like turning the rig to gig levels and hearing it fill the room . Every Sunday night I'm in the house band at a blues jam in my favourite downtown dive , and the beauty of the gig is getting other bass players play through my rig . It's always surprising to hear how different players sound useing exactly the same gear . Same settings , often the same bass . And often sound completely different .

I can use the following in any combination two GK 112-2 Cabs with Eminence Kappalite 3012HO speakers (Lightweight Neodymnium 450 Watt Speakers with good Xmax) One GK 15" Cab with Eminence Kappa Pro LFA-2 Speakers (a boat anchor in weight but very good low end with high X-Max and 600 Watts RMS) I have used the two GK 112-2 in a club environment and outdoors by itself with very good results. They have high sensitivity, punch, decent mid lows. I was using my 5 string Active Bass outdoor and Streamliner 600. Drummer sitting 7 ft away said he felt the bass which was a pleasant surprise. The 15" Cab is an older one with rear facing port that I put the speaker I had boxed in closet (too expensive to ship due to weight) but glad I kept it as it sounds great with one 112-2 cab and a custom 12" Eminence Horn and bandpass filter I built in own small cab for mid frequency fregency rated 200 watts RMS. I have only used the 15" cab at home due to size and weight but it would work well in live environment. imgur.com/a/xemieqd

I think Andy Field might have designed that for Fender before he went to Mesa . Never used the larger class D Rumble amps but have used his earlier and later amps . I reached out to Andy. Here is his reply: Hi Gary, I didn't design the Rumble 800, but it's obvious upon examination that the Rumble 350/500/800 incorporate some of the technologies from Genz Benz during the period that Fender owned the company. Those amps were Fender's first class D amps, so our already successful and reliable products made for a good starting point. There's nothing wrong with turning the amp up above 1/2, the controls are linearized so that if you need more you can turn them up more. Otherwise, we wouldn't use controls that turned past 12:00. Interesting , I had thought he was involved as Fender began to venture into class D technology after acquiring GenzBenz . I had read that the GenzBenz team worked on the early class D amps but that must have been speculation . I believe he has been the force behind the Mesa Subway line . And the new TT800 . And Genzler now have their Magellan line . Unfortunately I live at the edge of the universe , Nova Scotia , and the nearest dealer would be in Quebec . It's amazing that Andy is so accessible . When he was working on my amp we exchanged some emails , I had to pinch myself realizing that the guy that designed my amp was actually checking it out . And it was a fast turnaround .

Interesting , I had thought he was involved as Fender began to venture into class D technology after acquiring GenzBenz . I had read that the GenzBenz team worked on the early class D amps but that must have been speculation . Looks like they were just using their own Product and Development team to reverse engineer Genz Benz amps. Fender has been designing their own stuff for years so the only thing they were not familiar with is Class D Power outputs. At least If they did indeed copy Genz Benz design for the Class D output I know it should do well. I had to pinch myself realizing that the guy that designed my amp was actually checking it out . And it was a fast turnaround . Yeah, when one eats, drinks, breathes and sleeps when designing something doesn't take them long at all. I believe he has been the force behind the Mesa Subway line . And the new TT800 It does have Andy's way of designing in it plus when I read the write up about it I found it a lot like his style of writing (way of speaking). If he isn't I will be really surprised.

There's an enormous thread on the amp on Talkbass , and Andy frequently pops in to post . I believe he did the earlier amps in the Subway line , which was Mesa adopting Class D technology that was pioneered by GenzBenz . He's been with Mesa for a while now . I'm a big Class D fan , and love that you can plug in headphones without plugging in a speaker . My main practise amp is a tiny GK MB200 . It has a aux in mini jack input so I can plug in a tablet and play along . The perfect practise rig . Just for fun I recently dragged it out for a gig and it filled a mid sized room . But I do prefer something with a little more power on the gig . My Class D heads ...

Morrow, Hows that Bergantino amp doing for you? How does it compare to the Genz Benz and GK?

All three sound quite different . The GK has that mid scoop thing they do . I was used to that after using a RB400 years ago , still have a later RB400 tucked away . I like that "GK" sound . I have a MB 150 combo at home for practice . I did drag the MB 200 out to a gig recently and was happily surprised to hear it fill the room . The GB Liner has a three tube preamp so it sounds warmer and darker . With three gain stages it's pretty versatile , but mostly playing roots and blues stuff I usually stick to a nice fat , warm , old school thump . But clean , I'm not dialing in any major overdrive . Gorgeous amp ! The Forte is a more modern , clean , transparent , hifi approach , and yet works really well for what I do . I was surprised by how much I liked it . It's very simple and intuitive to dial in . Each bass seems to have a more unique sound with the Forte . I use Bergantino HDN cabs , they were designed to work together . I'm a believer . Both the Liner and the Forte have a ton of headroom on the gig . Clean restrained power . At this time I'm favouring the Forte . That may change . There's still some other amps I'd love to try ...

Came in today. Spent a little time with it until back screamed at me. Came with really nice Carrying bag, Footswitch for Drive Enable/Disable and a Heavy duty Speakon Cable (only 3ft but works with top cab). Has good clear deep lows, nice mids, smooth highs with Bass, Low Mid, High Mid, Treble set at 12 o'clock (flat). Has three buttons for Vintage, Contour, Bright. Contour of course cuts your mids down. I prefer the modern tone (Vintage not depressed) but Vintage has its uses. Other controls are Gain, Drive, Level, and Master. On back are 2 speakon jacks, mini Headphone jack, Auxiliary In, Send and Return, Speaker cab impedance selector (4/8 ohm and 2 ohm ) 4 ohm and 2 ohm are 800 watts RMS. Haven't tried running 3 cabs yet but says it can handle it with no issues so we will see.

8 Honey: I can't justify that...3 cabs come on, man LOL, I only have 3 cabs as the two 2 x 12's are easy to carry. The 1 x 15 was given to me and I put a 15" speaker I had that is a boat anchor so I doubt it will ever leave my house.

One think I missed that was on the Streamliner and Markbass heads was tuner output as the Fender Rumble 100 doesn't have a designated tuner out but send (of the send return jacks) fits that bill nicely so back in business.
