Had a short-scale, SX "P" bass stashed at a friend's house and some orifices broke in, ransacked the place and stole my bass and the HSC it was in (among other things).
Not a huge deal: I bought it used and it is not vintage or collectable or even all that valuable (monetarily) but it was fun to play and I liked it.
Sunburst finish, "old-style" peghead, maple fretboard.
Upgraded with DiMarzio DP-127 (double blade) pups.
HSC has rounded corners and an ESP logo on the lid.
Old PIC taken before pups upgraded
This is not a PIC of my bass but is included to show what the pup
blades look like. Pup covers in mine are black, not white like these.
If it shows up for sale, I would expect it to be in NorCal, most likely in Sacramento or SF Bay Area.
Please keep an eye out. Thanks.

Does not matter the cost it is crappy thing to have happened to you.
Noticed the ESP case.
What ESP bass do you have? I have a 5 string model with case like that.

I freaking hate thieves.
Your friend's insurance should cover the loss (I know...it's small consolation).
Keep an eyeball on CL and Fleabay. Also check pawn shop Websites; many list these things when they come in.

Needless to say, I agree with you and Peegoo: thieves suck, money value of the theft not withstanding. And with the pup upgrade, it was a decent little bass. When I was in high school, I knew this rich jerk who liked to steal stuff just to make the people he took it from unhappy. All he had to do was go ask daddy for money and he could buy just about anything...but it wasn't really "the stuff" that he wanted.
I will definitely have my head on a swivel watching for it, but will be surprised if I ever see it again.
I actually don't have an ESP. Picked up that case someplace because it's a perfect fit for either the stolen bass or a Mustang. Not sure what ESP bass it was actually made for.
Ah, well...

Sad to read this. I know the sense of violation that comes from being stolen from. I'm also sad for your friend if he feels bad and responsible for your loss.

I think thieves should be publicly caned, and then just let go. This 3 hots and a cot thing is too good for them.

Ugh. Another annoying thing is that no one is going to make money on it... the best they'll be able to do is leave it with a pawn shop or something. Reselling used wares is so much harder these days I don't know why anyone would steal anything anymore. I had a bike stolen a few years ago off of a second floor balcony (didn't even occur to me to lock it up on a second floor). I liked that bike, too. It is yet to be replaced.
Most/all of my guitars are worth more to me than they are monetarily, which is why none of these have been sold off. In a way that makes it much more annoying - it was the finding of a cool instrument that made it good for you, not just shelling out the dough.
Generally speaking, where in the world are you, so that your neighbors and near-neighbors can keep their eyes peeled?

Where do you live , Taildragger ? I'm all for flogging theives too . I had a bag stolen from my old studio that contained a considerable amount of vintage Leica gear . Completely broke my heart . I had consumed a lot of Kraft dinner to buy that stuff , at a time I had little money and rich taste .

Reselling used wares is so much harder these days I don't know why anyone would steal anything anymore. Generally speaking, where in the world are you, so that your neighbors and near-neighbors can keep their eyes peeled? Yep, even sadder, I'm thinking that these douche bags won't notice the DiMarzios (which cost as much as the bass, itself) and will be so disappointed in what they get offered for a cheap, used, import bass that they'll just chuck it in a dumpster or under a freeway overpass. Reminds me of an old 4X5, bellows camera that was stolen from my dad's home when he was about the age I am now. He had bought it with hard-earned cash during the Great Depression. It did double-duty as a camera and a makeshift, jury-rigged enlarger head at that time and then he used it to take portraits of the family while I was growing up. Had almost no monetary value by the time it was stolen, but quite a bit of sentimental value to him. During that same break-in, the dirtbags also got a Kodak, 35mm, view-finder camera that he had carried with him through five, WWII/ETO amphibious invasions and also a 2-1/4-square, Mamiya double-lens reflex with parallax correction which I had bought him for Xmas the first year I had any money after leaving home. Yep: thieves often steal a lot more than "stuff". Hope their freakin' meth gives 'em a damn aneurysm. Funky-K: Norcal, as I said at the end of the opening post. I would expect that if it shows up on CL it will likely be somewhere in the SF Bay or Sacramento areas, but who knows?

BTW, thanks for the commiseration, all: helps cleanse the bitter taste from my emotional palette.

Sorry to see this Taildragger. I feel your pain. Had a brand new P stolen in a bar.
I agree with the caning suggestion. Actually caning is too good. Something a little harsher would work sit better.

Beautiful bass. Shame on the punk who stole it. Careening or hanging him head down from the rafters to contemplate the happy life he could have been living instead.. 🏴☠️
