This is a nice short tutorial on playing slide in standard tuning. This is the way I've almost always played slide; I don't want to dedicate a guitar to open tuning slide, and it's actually easier for me, due to reasons stated in the article. Several examples are shown, some easy, some not so easy.
My wife would cringe when I began learning slide, she remembers those days. I'll never be Duane Allman but I love playing slide and it's just become easier and easier. It took some practice, but not as much as you might think.
I post this as encouragement to anyone who would like to learn slide, without learning a new tuning or dedicating a guitar to slide.
