I would like to order Ivory saddle and Bridge Pins for my Yamaha but he will not sell them outside of Georgia. Would anyone in Georgia be willing to buy and mail them to me? I would send money before hand using Paypal or other means Please let me know in Private Message www.guitarsaddles.com/products.asp

Without documentation, what he is doing is almost certainly illegal... I'm no lawyer but when he says "I cannot legally ship outside of Georgia" what he means is "if I try shipping outside of Georgia I might get caught"
Also, I've worked with ivory many times. It does have a unique and different sound from bone, but I've never felt like I needed to go out of my way to acquire it. YMMV

YMMV If so you would think he would be in trouble for even selling in Georgia Years ago I put Fossilized Mammoth Ivory Saddles and Bridge pins on A Martin D16 from Maury’s and it made a big difference . Maury’s in Boston still sells them apparently without restrictions but expensive

I considered going the Mammoth route some years ago. But I recall reading that the slight sonic advantage with the hard material is lost with a typical Fishman type UST which actually conducts better on the filiment.

I heard a noticeable sonic difference with the Fishman Aura system on the Martin D16 . Of course there is no guarantee it will have the same results on the Yamaha’s SST2 system.

This is old, but a good read. www.pbs.org/wgbh/roadshow/stories/articles/2015/6/22/ivory-law/I suspect that, by staying within Georgia state lines, he’s avoiding interstate commerce law and the Feds. Personally I wouldn’t engage in business with this person. If this is “new” ivory (not reclaimed) I would definitely stay away - not only from a legal standpoint but also on principle. My $.02. YMMV, etc.

If I ever buy anything it will be Fossilized Mammoth Ivory from Maury’s Music. Sense they are extinct already for thousands of years I don’t believe there will be any issues there

I didn't look at his website very long, but I don't see how he gets West African ivory. He just has it.

Good call. Everything seemed shady about that to me.
If you want a cheaper option, maybe try unbleached bone? I've found it has more character than the bleached stuff, and I've had a bit better luck with it as a tone upgrade.
I've used several kinds of ivory, but the one that I have a clear image in my head of is whatever was normal usage on vintage instruments before it became illegal. That stuff is softer than bone, and has a more round tone. I think the subtle differences between whatever that was and bone would be lost on many modern instruments - older instruments with very little hardware (often not even a truss rod) gain something from everything being kinda light. A Martin "authentic" might be a good candidate, but even then I think most modern players want a snappier bass response, which bone does a bit better than ivory. It might be fair to say that the dramatic difference you heard was with the fossilized stuff and the "new" West African stuff might be underwhelming in comparison, anyway. That is just my guess. I'd have to do more research/experimenting to put any more confidence behind that.

Thanks Funky, I ordered Graphtech Tusq pins, saddle, nut and will compare that to bone and original stock stuff
Original Urea stock had sweeter highs and mids but lows while good were slightly woofy than bone. Bone crisper lows nut not as sweet sounding. It is decent though.
