My nominee is the Budda Super Drive 18. One of the loudest Low Watt amps out there

Funny you said that, because that was going to be my exact answer! In fact, I keep mine around just in case I ever need a 50W amp!

Yep! I heard walshb play one and had to own one!
Way Louder than an 18 Watt Amp!
Still have mine and probably need to use it for more recording!

I’ve got a VHT 18 Special that is pretty much a Marshall 18w clone. To get it sounding right, it is stupid loud.

Okay, I'll be the dissenter here.
PRRI with the Heyboer OT and JJ 6V6 power tubes. I've never had to turn mine up past 3 or 4. It gets insanely loud.

I've not heard a Budda but the Maz 18 Jr is 18W going on 50.

I've not heard a Budda but the Maz 18 Jr is 18W going on 50. I forgot about that one! We'll have to put them side by side sometime.

While I have found some amps to "overrated wattage wise" (claiming X wattage but not delivering) I have come to realize a contributing factor is the speaker choice (sensitivity rating measured in db per watt). Any other opinions?

Oh man, I miss my Budda Superdrive 80 with matching 4x12 loaded with greenbacks. That was peak tone for me. I remember once just smiling in the middle of a gig at how awesome my rig sounded. I sold theat head but I shouldn't have. Too bad I have zero justification for such a beast these days.

Any other opinions? I agree. When I needed to lower the volume of the "sweet spot" in one of my amps I swapped in a lower efficiency speaker. Beside fixing the sweet spot it added a different tonal palette to the amp

Budda 18 for me, too. Great sounding amp, but just way too loud for my needs.

Thanks. I just spent the last 4 years trying to find amps that sound good in a ROOM without bothering the neighbors. Now I know to avoid any Budda amps...lol. They sound brutal ! I'd suggest attaching them to smaller speakers but when I tried that with a 50watt head, I completely melted off the speaker wire plastic ! Obviously, I no longer recommend that.
