David Olney was playing a set, paused and said "I'm sorry", closed his eyes and died peacefully in his chair. He died where he truly lived, performing onstage. Most of his career he was known, to the extent that he was known at all, as a Folkie or singer/songwriter, but I'm posting a link to his rock and roll days as "Dave Olney and the X-Rays". Link here--- Austin City Limits 1982 ----scroll to the 1:30 mark and listen to killer versions of "I'm going to wait here for the cops", and his masterpiece, "Contender". It's worth a listen. I've been a fan since the late 70s and every single time I caught him was memorable. Townes Van Zandt called him one of the best writers that he had ever heard. I agree.

I heard this story yesterday. As sad as it is, THAT is the way to go: doing what you love. And it makes for quite an unforgettable performance for the audience.
Country Dick Montana, drummer and vocalist for the Beat Farmers, winked out onstage in a similar manner years ago.
Rest in peace, David.

That is a sad story.
But it happens.

Saw the announcement yesterday.
Sad, to be sure, but if it's your time, I can sure think of worse ways for it to happen.
RIP.

Yeah, sounds like a good way to go. A tough act to follow.

The not-so-romantic way of going would be to die while packing up after a gig. That would be me for sure.
"Hey, did you lot know your bass player is lying face down in the equipment trailer?"

That's sad, but quite poetic, Rok.
I'd heard the name, but not sure I'd ever heard anything by him.
R.I.P.

As an aside, I've heard of a couple of drummers passing away on stage locally, and our previous drummer had to retire permanently from the band after two heart attacks. It happens :-(

That's a trip straight to hell.
Sorry, but it's true.
Same for Margaritaville and The Weight.
