I do.
I have probably more machine screws than I will ever need, not to mention nuts, washers, standoffs, strain relief, etc.
It takes up so little room, how can you not justify saving the wee bits?
It bugs me when I see no destination other than the dump for nonrecyclable parts I am certain I or others will never need.

Oh heck yeah. Any hardware on an item that is otherwise 'dead to me' gets cannibalized before the rest of the item goes into recycle/trash. I have lost count of the number of times I've avoided a trip to the local Fastenall because I already have that weird little metric screw I need. I keep this stuff sorted so it's easy to use. For example, all machine-thread screws go into one bin. Lock washers are in another. Flat steel washers are in another. Flat plastic washers are in another. Sheet metal screws in another. The bins I use are the Akro-Mils brand:  If you're a coffee-can guy, here's a cool tip: lay a bandana or large shop towel on the bench. Place your small parts in a pile on that, and pick up the four corners of the shop towel and drop that into your coffee can. When you need a part, lift it all out by the corners and open the towel on the bench. You can sort and find what you need without having to dump everything out. If you're a baby-food-jar type (small containers), your life will be made a whole lot easier with one of these. I always salvage whatever I can from things before I throw them out as long as I have a place to store them. I have a couple bolt bins kind of like Peegoo's I use for keeping the small stuff sorted.
Instead of bandanas I use and assortment of cookie sheets and metal cake pans to pour bins that are full into when I need to find a particular fastener. Then I can just pour the stuff back into the bin when I'm done.
I also use the cake pans when working on engines or machines with lots of bolts and hardware. It's a lot easier to find particular ones when they are only one level thick instead of having to try and find one in a coffee can full of bolts and nuts.
