Found a demo model on Sweetwater for a relative song - I didn't even know these came out a year and a half or so ago or I'd have preordered.
I *LOVE* the SDD-320 but haven't ever wished to shell out the $$$ for one, used a pair back in the 90s at a friend's studio space and missed them ever since.
I acquired a Boss DC-2W when it came out because it has a quite decent SDD-320 mode as its "Waza" half, but I missed the rack format and big happy LED output meter, as well as line-level headroom. The DC-2W handles SOME line level but not the crispy end.
I can report the 3rd Dimension chews up loud distorted analog synth or guitar and gives no care for any reasonable or most unreasonable output levels.
It is VERY subtle compared to many choruses, and is one of those effects you notice when it's off versus on at most settings. It's now on my master mixing bus on the studio recorder, where I can adjust mix % to taste as well.
Amazing what a bill and a half (street for a new normal unit, I paid a bit less as the demo model) gets these days.

There's no substitute for a great sounding chorus unit. I used to have a 2 space rack mounted analog Roland chorus unit that sounded wonderful. I don't remember the model or what happened to it. Roland has always built some great gear across the board.

I don't use chorus a whole lot and am not overly impressed with the chorus plugins in Pro Tools. I wish I could remember a plugin that I used in my first foray into digital recording (Vegas), but it was a whole lot better than what I've conjured out PT.

Not sure on plugins, I like hardware and for chorus stuff, I like subtle - settings where if I turn it off it's noticeable but not much otherwise. This does that in spades!

I don't think that is the one we had either. I looked online but can't find anything that looks like what we had. I need to contact my old studio partner to see if he remembers what it was.

There are a host of non-Roland rack analog chorii of the era - I enjoyed the Ibanez one myself.
Roland didn't offer many options there.
