I see the white tolex is $50 more than the black. Anyone go hands-on with both? There seems to be more than just cosmetic differences.

My understanding is that the blonde tolex version has the most up to date software version (black version can be updated) which means it takes pedals better, and may also have a different speaker. And it looks nicer. But I’m not an expert ;-)

Maybe answered my own question -- there's a YouTube video out there from Anderton's Music in UK playing the two side by side -- I'll pick the black one.

Black has a bright cap like the orginals the blond does not and has a different speaker and takes pedals better.

The blonde also has a different taper on the reverb pot. The black one has too much reverb too quickly at low settings on the knob so it was fixed. I have yet to try either of them in person but I was going to buy the blonde one (until I got a good deal on a nice Mesa amp instead).

You can load any firmware onto either model, so the only real difference other than cosmetics is the Jensen vs. Celestion speaker. You can even have the Jensen speaker physically installed but have the Celestion's modeled IR output from the XLR, or vice versa. I love my TMDR - the scalable power/volume is my favorite feature. It can sound like a beast at pretty low volume. Firmware versions

Yes, the scalable power can be switched between 0.2, 0.5, 1, 5, 12, and 22 "watts". Those are equivalent to what the tube version would sound like at those power levels. I think the actual amplifier in this amp is 100 watts. The "0.2 watt" setting is killer for cranking it at "bedroom" levels. A Tele or Les Paul sound heavenly with the amp cranked to 10.
