I was perusing these amps at Sweetwater and as you may or may not know, Sweetwater has an 'exclusive' '65 Deluxe they are selling in wine red. Last year, I bought a Twin Reverb in this color as I've always wanted a Twin Reverb. However, it would seem that around here and other places, the Deluxe Reverb is the choice most make. So, I was looking at these and doing a comparo with the '65 Deluxe Reverb in black, the original. I also noted the difference in price between these two Deluxe Reverbs of 200 bucks. I found that the wine red Deluxe had a different speaker in it thinking that that had to be the reason for the price difference. Turns out that the speaker in it, a Jensen P 12, is more expensive than the Jensen C 12 that the Deluxe in black has. Other comparisons revealed the same specs for both other than the speakers and the color. If there is some other difference in these amps that warrants a price difference of 200 bucks, I haven't found it. So, here is a 'heads up' if you are looking to purchase a Deluxe. If you don't mind the color and the more expensive speaker, The wine read Deluxe is the way to go, IMO. This color can also look chocolate brown in lower lights and looks just as great. Here's a look at the Comparo.

Holy smokes the price is almost double of what I paid for my Deluxe reverb, but it was about 14 yrs ago. Guess I haven't been paying attention to prices.

I love the look of the red/wheat and, alnico versus ceramic, well, I’m sure both amps sound like a DRRI.

A grand for a HRD? A Blues Jr. more than I paid for my HRD 15 years ago? Damn. The DRs are running what I recall Twins going for last I looked!

I wonder if prices will drop at some point or is this it and here to stay? Here to stay. I sell lots of Fender gear in my job. Their prices are going up again. Soon.

I have the black/grey version. I think I paid about $1k new in 2010. I wouldn't hesitate to get the wine red version. It looks cool and you can always change out the speaker. I have a bunch of amps but I think the DRRI is the #1 choice walking out the door not sure what is needed. It covers anything. Here is a YT I did a little while ago.

Fender has already raised their prices twice recently! I was looking at Blues Junior and Hot Rod Deluxe prices, and they went up $50. A few weeks later, they went up another $100... that's RIDICULOUS! A Limited Edition Blues Junior for $800 and a Hot Rod Deluxe for $1000? IMO, there's no way those amps are worth that kind of money. The ONLY way I'd pay $1000 for a HRD is if Fender removes the PCBs and hand-wires the amp with tube sockets, pots, etc. chassis-mounted.

Back on topic, I have the Sweetwater version with the Alnico . It’s a less efficient albeit lighter speaker . Breaks up sooner . I got mine when they were the same price and bought a demo. I ended swapping the speaker out because I wanted more headroom , or should I say some clean headroom. I ultimately went with a neo lil Texas and really like it . It weighs about 35 lbs . Sounds great too. There is no difference between the regular drri internally . Worth the extra 200 ? YMMV as always.

I find it interesting that my Silvertone Twin 12 came with Jensen C12's. I presume, the same speaker the original DRRI and current reissue come with. I wonder how close in sound these two amps are. Hmmm... Note the speakers are 'hard wired'. Edited to add: I just found out through dating the speakers in this cab when my Twin 12 may have been built. According to Jensen, their 'dating stamp' used only a single digit to note the date of manufacture. The first three digit, still used today, indicate Jensen as the manufacturer. The next number is the manufacture date, in my case, it is a single digit (they now use two digits) and the last two numbers indicate the week of manufacture. This what's on my speakers: 220 3 19. Since they made the Twin Twelve between 1964 and 1968, the speakers in my cab were built the 19th week of 1963, my Twin twelve is a '64, first year, model. Sorry, sometimes I get caught up in comparisons that are somewhat, related...in some ways.

I agree the Eminence Lil Texas is the way to go especially if you are weight conscious.
The stock model's Jensen C12K is a good clean-sounding efficient 100 watt speaker but weighs a ton. I pulled mine and swapped it for the slightly lighter 12" speaker from my Ramparte. The Ramparte's Chinese made speaker reminds me of a vintage 50 watt Utah. The Jensen went into the Ramparte giving it more volume.
So after the speaker swap my DRRI is maybe two lbs lighter.

Got my HRDx in,I think 2008 for $500. Serious tube upgrade and tweak up the bias about 8%...still loving it. Always get compliments on the sound. $1000? ouch.

Yea, my HRDx was $599 right when they first did the MIMs, so '04 or early '05.

Always get compliments on the sound. $1000? ouch. +1 2016 I got in a trade a HRD III w/ the drive channel modded ( I assume the IV has the mods from the factory) I use both channels, gigging and practicing. Has totally extinguished any gas for a mid sized 1x12 combo between 20-40 watts that I might have. Right size, right wattage, very versatile... live, I set the foot pedal to more drive, set the actual Drive on the amp low.. (around 3) match the master volume with the clean channel ...ride the guitar's volume and salt the drive channel with a tube screamer for solos. lost track on how many people/guitarist say that's a nice sounding combo amp.
