You turn it on. Plug in... (Even say.. "Ok ...I'm going to play soft and low...just noodle " Nope!
At the first G Chord Krrrrrrrrrange! There goes the volume!
The right amp and speakers combo is never harsh, always detailed and has that something you just want more of.
What is your Amp that does this? Being Guitarist... I know there has to be a bunch of people here that understand the above.

When I want not-so-loud cranked Marshall I have a micro-stack… with a twist. The two 1x10 cabs have Celestion Greenback 10s and the head is a 50th anniversary DSL1 head. A whole 1.5w of mayhem.
It’s fun to sit and play in front of.

My Vox AC15H1TV. It's not a big amp but boy does it grow fangs when you dime it and push the front end a little. I also like the sound of my BFTRRI at about 7 and boosting the input signal. HUGE!! Sometimes I would give my whole kingdom for a soundproofed basement I could mic the amps up in and close the door.

Yep, it's the same with stereo equipment; good stuff doesn't produce annoying, ear-grating tones and encourages you to turn it up a bit more to hear more subtleties.
For me it's my Redplate Bluesmachine.

What is your Amp that does this? I'm extremely fortunate to have several, including a '66 Fender Champ and '71 Fender Vibro Champ. Two others are these evil amplificators:

Another one is this homebrew amp that makes a blistering two watts of juicy plexi goodness. It uses a 12AX7 in the pre and a 6N1P in the power stage.

I had the good fortune to do an outdoor show where a Twin Reverb was required. The volume was at about 5 to 6. For an hour. It was a religious experience.

Those old Carvins are great amps. It is fairly old, closing in on 40 years. Also, not beat up. I believe Geno has one of these as well.

Those settings indicate we think alike. No messing around. Just find the setting that is "fatal to humans and animals"...and then back it off 10%.
