How does cathode biasing work? My backup amp is an 18 watt head I bought as a kit (Woodcross) with a 1-10 cabinet loaded with a ramrod. I have used 6L6, EL34 and KM77 in it.

From Wikpedia In electronics, cathode bias (also known as self-bias, or automatic bias) is a technique used with vacuum tubes to make the direct current (dc) cathode voltage positive in relation to the negative side of the plate voltage supply by an amount equal to the magnitude of the desired grid bias voltage. Here's a good explanation from Carls Custom Amps carlscustomamps.com/cathode-vs-fixed-bias

Hey thanks. Carl's explanation was very helpful. I did not realize cathode biased systems were constantly rebiasing.
