What was it Arsenio said? Hmmm
I couldn't turn it off.
Interesting stuff.
Might make one less apprehensive about building their own cabinet.

Lill's got some huge stones. As an 'influencer'--whatever that really means--in the musical social media world, he is positively killing it. And at the same time, he's killing any opportunities for sponsorship by makers of guitars and amps. He should contact Charmin and Angel Soft. They would be an ironically appropriate sponsorship flavor of products.
Lill was a crewmember of the submarine USS FDP for a short while, right before the boat caught its own fish. Seemed like a cool cat.

Far too many in todays world build their pronounced "facts" around what is socially acceptable and/or financially advantageous.

I loved what he did right at the end with the styrofoam cabinet. Just launched into a blind test without explanation or warning, the recording switching between the two amps without notice, and finished with "can you tell which amp is which"? It's the perfect way to do such a test. Shame he didn't do that for everything else. If we know what we are listening to, we can often think we hear differences that don't exist (because confirmation bias is real and nobody can escape it).
Overall I like what he did, but my two thoughts are 1) we never had enough time to evaluate the sounds, 2) anyone who tried this kind of testing knows that things that *might* seem obvious when playing are often lost in recording. 3) a room mic mixed in could have been more useful than a close mic on it's own.
Overall, IMHO, it's only somewhat useful for education/myth busting purposes but very useful for his channel earnings (and that's not a criticism, he put in a lot of time and expense produced a fun and compelling video that deserves great metrics and help pay some bills).

That was really great and while having experimented with a couple guitar cab builds several years ago I had similar results with 2 of his tests. Having said that, I was totally surprised by his Styrofoam cab. I thought it would really dampen the tone. I was wrong. Thanks for the post

I apply this pilgrim's kind of thinking to fishing. You'll find no shortage of "Pros" doing 10-30 minute videos on how to "Catch More Bass" on YouTube. And, a lot of these guys don't even fish tournaments anymore. They've figured out they can make more money being a company shill on YouTube. The first thing out of their mouths is always "Hit that subscribe button". There's a lot of great info out there, but you really have to know how to wade through the garbage. I imagine the same is true for just about any topic you want to talk about.

Watching and listening through headphones doesn't necessarily provide empirical evidence to me, but I guess I'll take him at his word. So what it the objective, to marginalize the gear and subsequently the gearheads? I suppose one could look at musical equipment as tools and still be an efficient musician. But if we took that approach to everything we'd all be wearing unitards and driving Honda CRV's.
