I have a 2012 iMac with dual drives. The HD (121 gb) i keep system files, applications, and things that run the computer. The SSD (1 Tb) is for file storage. I use Apple Logic for recording. I went to add more loops from Apple and I got message saying not enough room on the disc. That would be the HD, which shows 19 gb free, vs the SSD which had 360 gb free. I want to get stuff off the HD to create more room but Finder does not show where Logic keeps it's files. I thought moving the Library (62 gb) would free up space, but I don't know if that will screw up anything/everything.
I wish I could get more info on the HD. The files on Finder are Applications, Library, System and Users. From what I can see, these folders add up to about 80 gb. So what is taking up the 40 gb I should have available?

If I was you I'd run the system files and applications on the SSD as the improved performance of the SSD will really benefit the speed that your applications run at. As cheap as SSDs are, I'd get another one and image that 121gb disk to it. That way you can swap drives and if there are any issues you can swap drives back without risking anything. Most SSDs come with a tool to help with the imaging, you will need a USB>SATA cable which is about $10 at BestBuy or Frys. While SSD can fail they are pretty reliable compared to spindle drives. I run an IT business and we usually use Samsung drives as they are reliable and reasonably priced.

What neilp said - the spinning disk is always going to be a bottleneck.
