It was only a $30 pedal but would still be fun to fart around with.

I was skeptical of the Behringer super-cheapies but the HM-2 clone made me a believer - it's actually in all honesty a slight bit better than my vintage MIJ HM-2 which is no slacker.

Don't even have a fuzz and this one has impressive reviews. Couldn't resist ! Thanks for heads up rdr ! Should sound great for Denver's Country Roads, right ?

What John Denver song wouldn't be improved by radical, tune-destroying fuzz

Exactly. And when my female unit loses it because I didn't use the right "word", or one of her co-workers pissed her off with some perceived slight(a weekly event !), and I attempt to flee to a safe place from her rage, and she attempts to follow like she does.... I will engage my new WBQ(woman be quiet) device. All $15 of it. I think I'll start with a half assed attempt at an instrumental, multi track Fuzz version of Bohemian Rhapsody. Fuzzed out Denver songs would probably work great...but She hates Bohemian Rhapsody. She usually blows sometime in the Holidays, and I can feel it building up already. Never fails. This time, she's going to help me master a Fuzz pedal while I crank it up. She just doesn't know it yet. I can hardly wait ! (Sometimes a guy just has to make his own fun... **** ****not all of the above is true. I have a bunch of new power chords I need to practice. My sloppy attempts in this direction might even be more...uh...strategic for my purposes...with an unmastered new Fuzz pedal at volume. Either way, it's a win-win-win-win for me ! Not only do I get to practice new chords, learn the Fuzz pedal, play loud so I don't have to listen to the painful loss of sanity for the hour of her petty angst, and I'll also have fun while she winds down to silence for the rest of the day/night,(plus I'll live another day !) Cool ! $15 well spent. Hope I get it in time...she could blow any time !

Sounds like at that price and reasoning, should look at other cheapies in the line and consider backups. "I have to make sure this works, dear, before the return period is over." would never end if you just kept ordering one a week.

It's back up to $29, but that's still cheap.
I've never owned a true fuzz pedal. I've always attained my fuzz by ganging two OD/distortion pedals.

Fuzz is a different beast altogether, although there are RARE crossovers - usually a "fuzzish" dirtbox that isn't labelled as such.
The old Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal is more a fuzzbox than a dirtbox, which is why I've always loved it.
And don't get me started on ganging together (including parallel) fuzzes!

I’m kind of done with fuzzes. I have a FoxRox CC2 that has the plugin modules for different shades of silicon or germanium NPN or PNP transistors. At the end of the day, I found I’m more of a smooth Eric Johnson-ish Fuzzface fan. The spitty, gated fuzziness doesn’t do much for me. But yeah, any pedal under 30 is a no-brainer.

My theory on fuzzes and distortions is that they are not designed to sound good at low volumes...generally. They are designed for when a tube amp is cooking, the volume is >120 db, ear fatigue has solidly set in, and sound waves are giving your brain serial... concussions. Then, and only then, can one truly experience all each pedal has to offer. This is only a theory however. It is NOT a theory that my female unit will not like it...at any volume, I will probably not like it until I combine it with other effects, and a fuzz isn't to be used on Hawaiin music.(EJ probably doesn't play a lot of Hawaiin music but I know a guy who does. It makes me grin to imagine him playing it through a fuzz pedal. Ewww. Thems are probably the fax. And a lot of probably deranged musicians gave this fuzz a lot of stars. Reviews are never wrong are they ? But a fuzzy boost ? Hmm. That might be interesting for something ! I got the call from Sweetwater today and it was kind of funny. Usually he's calling people who have bought some 4 digit guitar or amp. Today all he had to support was a $15 Fuzz pedal ! So this big spender peppered him with questions, probably to his dismay. The phone call lasted almost a half an hour and probably cost the company way more than $15, poor things ! But did you know ? Those NYXL long lasting strings are basically just ordinary strings with a super thin coating like Elixers. The "long lasting" claim is mostly directed at corrosion resistance. Not string breakage. And there is a very slight drop in high frequency. Not round, not dark, just a slice of treble. For the rest you'll have to buy my book "A Friendly Conversation with Sweetwater after a $15 sale" for $14.95 plus $57.67 s/h. I suspect that guy won't be calling me back for quite a while...and he wasn't a big fan of the Fuzz, I could tell. Now he REALLY isn't. ps. note to ninworks. Would you perhaps LIKE another similar wife... so you can have a matching pair ?

Arrived for me today.
it won't be leaving Mode 2 - the boost is ..a boost, and I have better (dirty of various pleasing to me flavors), and the fuzz 1 is generic.
The Fuzz 2, thought, is scooped mid harmonic screaming Superfuzz goodness writ LARGE.

I just got mine too. Gotta love the bit-o-honey and tootsie roll and overly food colored hot fireball ! Didn't try it yet but I noticed the volume knob was scratchy...unlike the other knobs. Turning it back and forth didn't help. I hope I didn't get a lemon but we'll see. Maybe a scratchy volume knob will add to the "tone". So Rev...your Fuzz 2 comment was derived from humbuckers or single coils or P-90s ? Maybe the other settings work better with different pickups. Glad to see you like it !

Tried with both, the only thing I 'adjust" with buckers is turn down the bass a little.
Contact Sweetwater.
They may just send you another one (not kidding) and tell you to keep it - it's common practice when these have issues rarely.
Contact cleaner will probably fix it as well, but...call them!

Good advice but it turns out I can "feel" the scratching of the knob when turned but I can't hear it. Good enough for me ! Are you sure Fuzz 1 didn't do anything for you ? Try humbuckers with both EQ knobs on Fuzzer at full cut, and add a little treble on the guitar. Found a nice meaty yummy power chord distortorama for me ! (top 4 strings) ps. Yep. Woman blew as expected ! Missed half of Thanksgiving weekend. Fuzz wasn't at her place though. Dang ! Public Service message : Untreated chronic anxiety is a mental issue. Please treat asap. Very destructive ! Useful for unexpected practice time though...

Fuzz 1 is just ...generic.
I have something like 30 fuzz pedals. I want something...different on tap.
It's either Fuzz 2 or the "in between" mode, honestly, and usually 2 works better.
(put it between 1 & 2 like a 3 position strat switch to run both circuits in parallel, you can hear the difference when you hit the sweet spot).

Huh. No kidding. Ok. I'll try that for grins. Thanks. I might also try running it on 7.5v to see if the clipping gets weaker and thus, more sine wavey(when I get time). The power light didn't dim at all so maybe not. You probably don't have enough Fuzz pedals you know...

For some it's pedals and for some it's microphones.

Yes...I read somewhere that AA is thinking of branching out and using it's tried and true principals and rules for G.A.S. too.
Including AAGAS.
Hi. I'm FictionalBob. And I'm an alcoholic gear acquirer...
Ninworks: Hi FictionalBob. You're in a safe place. I have 45 microphones.
Reverendrob : Hahahaha. I have over 30 Fuzzes.
FictionalBob: Whew. I have 21 guitars, and 39 amps. I guess I'm in the right place...
So, I had a minute and I again noticed that even turned off, the Fuzz boosts my signal AND changes the EQ a little...in a slightly bassier way. This added a little color to a purely clean tone and with minor adjustments to the guitar knobs, the clean is usable, but a little punchier than normal. I think the real difference for me was the volume boost...with the pedal off and the gain knob off. This volume gain was in Fuzz 1. I didn't expect this and had to turn down the guitar and amp to get back to reasonable volume. Once engaged though, the pedal was dead quiet when the volume knob was zero. And I only had to go to 10 to bring up the volume of the Fuzz 1 to the disengaged level.
And I found several more usable tones for Fuzz 1 at 9v. The tones were ok for me, buzzy but not too brutal, I liked them...but I wanted to see if giving it 7.5v would round off the square waves, or weaken them and make it a little less aggressive.
And glory be...the rumors for overdrives on lower voltages works for this Fuzz too ! Lower the voltage and the buzzy edge mellows out, but stays nicely buzzy and full, even with gain on zero. And much to my surprise, the volume stayed almost the same.
So in addition to what others have discovered with this Fuzz, I think this pedal has a lot of useful features in the right spot ; a heavier clean boost EQ while disengaged, a dead silent kill switch, and an option for more intense buzz or more rounded buzz. And of course, it produces a fine set of Fuzz sounds to play with too. I was surprised to find I already play with a tone that's like a weak Fuzz, but this pedal is my sound fattened up and blown out. And I find it very inspiring for power chords.
But I was disappointed for bottom string lead tones, especially moving up the neck. Tons of digital artifacts. Totally unusable for lead.
Of course this is my first Fuzz so what do I know. My standard weak fuzz tone doesn't have this issue at all...so I'm puzzled.
But for the top 4 strings, it's a keeper for me. I've been unable to get that sound...until now !
And I've yet to tap the potential of the boost and Fuzz 1/Fuzz 2 in real tube amps.
A welcome tool to my toolset.

And the voltage starve trick works on most analog fuzzes, they generally don't have charge pumps.
My "signature" fuzz that's been built for 60+ people has a built-in starve knob!
