Some people use the back corners of the pick others the point. SRV and Ted Nugent both uses back corner instead of point. Im trying both what do you use? thanks

I'll sometime roam off the point, but not on purpose. 😉

Point. The only time I'll use a back corner is when strumming an acoustic with a softer pick.

Point for fast stuff. For really fast stuff I use the point at an angle to reduce the resistance. I use picks with different point shapes for different things. Mostly I use a large Clayton triangle shaped pick with a sharp point.

Tip. If I did the back, it would be only when I want to do a cover by one of those guys. The problem with some of the hero worship stuff is that we adopt bad habits. There's getting good ideas, there's nailing someone's tone, and then there's just the weird stuff.
I've recently switched back to regular Fender Mediums. I want to make my playing less quirky, so I'm putting my teardrop picks away for a little while.

I'm purple 2.0 mother of huge Tortex and have used them for pushing 30 years, they're the only ones the damaged thumb can hold onto reliably.

I use all 3 corners. I start with the point and work my way around as the pick breaks.

What's this "pick" you speak of? Thought I'd represent for the fanger-pickers because you know they're gonna show up. Meanwhile, in Russia...

I use the point too, that's what it's for, but if you want to do SRV-style "Dirty Pool" strumming the round side is the way to go.

Sides just before the point, index finger right at the edge of the point. Been doing it this way for as long as I've been pickin' as far as I know. Only noticed this after I dove more into technique. I'll also add that I pick in both directions...always. Thanks for askin'.

Vibroluxer uses the Tootsie Pop theory: How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? Apparently 3! Lol

I don't play guitar a lot but when I do I like fingerstyle. I like the sound of using a medium or heavier pick but I am not real good at it because I mainly play bass. I like a Blue 1.0 Tortex pick on bass because I found the type material in a pick effects the tone. I have used a pick with bass with some success with alternate picking from note to note (Just up/down each time) I am really in awe of guitar players who use a pick well. And ones the will alternately use the pick with index and thumb but use the 2 or 3 of the remaining fingers as needed. My biggest problem has always been the pick turning in my fingers and even falling out at times. I have found picks the have a slight recess that is textured where you thumb sits. That is helpful. I have at times drilled small holes in a pick in area of thumb and index fingers and found some success. A few years ago I was working on finger picks that fit over your fingers and thumb and was able to make it sound really good (at least to me). I wished I had kept it up but invariably something would come up and it might be days or weeks before I got back to it and then I had to start all over again. I have the time now but either the finger picks were too small and hurt my fingers or couldn't find ones that worked. I didn't like metal ones but guess banjo players might. Lately I just mainly want to play my basses and guitars sit lonely in their cases.
