It has been suggested that all of the “RIP” threads in Moe’s are a bit morbid and depressing, and that perhaps they belong in a separate section.
We have an “In Memoriam” section, which is being used as an archive for our members who have passed on. Those posts belong in Moe’s, because that gives them the most visibility and in my opinion is the best way to pay tribute to those members. Once the thread runs its course, the entire thread gets moved to In Memoriam.
What is being proposed here is a completely new section to post about the deaths of celebrities, musical heroes, and anyone else who isn’t one of our members. If created, all death posts of non-members would be posted there, and any posted in Moe’s would be immediately moved there.
I thought this was a rather non-controversial topic and I thought I would get the opinion of the membership before proceeding. Simple choice, either Yes or No.
Please vote!!

To me, it seems more morbid to have a section dedicated to people who die.

Our membership is pretty small. Providing we endure it would be nice to keep the dedicated in memoriam spot to remember our fallen forumites, uncluttered by the RIPs of celebrities, musicians, etc. Just my 0.02

To the point of having a dedicated forum to discuss the deaths of everyone else, nah...I think the loss of musicians and celebrities is Moe's type fodder. Either way, it ultimately wouldn't matter to me.

I must confess, I’ve never seen such infatuation with dead celebrities that seems to permeate the Moe’s crowd. I lamented to Mrs. L once that Moe’s is the place to go if you need to get the latest and fastest news on a dead celeb.
That said, it’s easy enough to simply ignore the posts. That’s what I do. It’s very rare that I even open the RIP threads (for celebs).

I've seen some forums get so topically micromanaged in general discussion subjects that they become confusing. I'm guessing that trend could continue with other topics being suggested for sub-forums. It'll just reduce the amount of posts in a forum that already has pretty low traffic.
Ok, make that my 0.04

As morbid as some might think it is … the ability to scroll through entries over time could’ve of interest to some.
As it is now reminiscing in that way is just about impossible.

If we had such a forum I could stop playing all my albums backwards.

The dead posts die off on their own. Please keep the member thread separate. We say good bye to the celebs and the thread goes to the fishing post page(aka page 2).

In the early days it was suggested that we should have separate sections for photography and camping, but I didn’t see the point in those. The only reason I ask about this particular subject is that I don’t want people to be uncomfortable or upset by all of the death threads. The poll is closer than I imagined it would be this far. Also want to say we have been averaging 70 posts a day over the last month, I’m not sure I think that is slow traffic.

There have been a large amount of celebs passing lately. It will slow and there won't be many RIP threads. It would be more work for us mods but we could let them stay in moes for a week or so and then move to a separate forum.

I personally feel that they are fine to appear in Moe's as topical content, and then disappear over the page naturally, with no need for intervention of any kind.
There may be times when there are a plethora of them, but there will also be times when there are none. We don't need to keep count.
The passing of members is being handled in a respectful and appropriate manner.

I have never heard of most of the people in those threads so it helps me to have it in Moe's. I will see them and read who the people were. If a post with someone's name I didn't know was in a subsection I probably wouldn't bother to click on it. Sometimes I know what band, artist, or movie they were associated with but most of the time I don't.

I guess it kind of is what it is at this point, the horses have been led to water, but you can’t make them post.

As someone who pretty much just looks in Moe's and the Electric Guitar forum, I voted no for simplicity's sake.
It would be kinda interesting to post birth notices for people we think will someday become famous musicians, to be both uplifting and test for clairvoyance.
