It's based on the TS10 circuit, but it's way more versatile.

Josh was right: "People listing for $600 and people buying them for $600 are two very different things."

I bought one early on; even had it modded by some pedal doctor, only to give it to my son. I’m sure it’s long gone but I’d better confirm. I wouldn’t want to miss the wave. I thought the modded Monkey sounded really good but memory fails on the particulars.

I've raised the price on a couple niche rackmounts by mentioning them and championing them for years. They're STILL underpriced versus what they're worth, and I already had a pair or more of everything before the prices "spiked." When you can get EVERY damned Boss 70s and 80s era OD/distortion unit with parametric EQ in a single rackmount, analog, MIJ...I still don't know how JHS hasn't figured that out. Ok, I’ll admit my ignorance - what unit is that?

Ok, I’ll admit my ignorance - what unit is that? Boss GL-100 "Guitar Driver". It's virtually forgotten. Footswitchable channel, an effects loop, XLR outs, speaker emulated outs (the first unit that I ever had that had them), etc. It'll do basically any of the dirtboxes of the Boss Japan era and then some.

It's very strange, I'm sure there were a lot of good sleeper pedals that weren't understood or marketed correctly. You get a known player who mentions it in a rig rundown and people scramble. Shiny object and gullibility and I've been a victim lol

My rack is full of them.
The Lexicon Vortex is a MAJOR sleeper - everyone I know who's ever touched one covets getting more of them because 30 years later, there's nothing else like 'em.

I should dig out all my pedals and go through them again. Most were bought because of the FDP...no bad monkey though. I remember the thread in the misc. forum that was pretty active IIRC.
I use my keeley modded blues driver the most, but I have both reverend drive trains, a wasabi overdrive (got that for like $15 new or something insane like that) and a crunch box. I thought I had more than that, but it's been years since I've looked through that storage box. 95% of the time I play with headphones into a vox tonelab since I quit gigging.
I run through a Marshall 1974X head into a 1x12 sealed back cab if I do amp up. I actually have two of those heads, one I built and one I got on ebay that was built buy a guy who started his own amp company in...I think it was St. Louis...quite a few years ago. Reason or something like that?
Anyway, I look at pedals sometimes, but they never sound for me like they do in the demos. There was a centaur clone...the demo sounded great, but they were going into a really nice amp that was running hot enough that it was just starting to break up on it's own. I can't really go there unless I'm the only one in the house. Even gigging, we mic'd everything and tried to keep stage volume down, so I could never really open up the amp (I gigged with a Traynor YCV40).
My issue was always that we did cover songs, so you need a pretty wide variety of tones to do it well (IMO). It's not like a blues guy who can just dial in "his tone" and go.

Had one for a bit way back when but didn't like the noise it made if my cables moved around or anything touched the housing. Bought a Blackstar HT and sold the Monkey since I was looking for a more high-gain signal.

It's been a while since I've checked in on MT2. The fuss over the Bad Monkey brought back the memory the Delinquent Simian thread from the old FDP to me as well. I still have mine from those days and use it once in a while. Good to see it caught the attention of you other guys, too.

I was watching a rig rundown with Tommy Shaw and, lo and behold, look what is on his board. His tech called it a 'tube simulator'. lol!
Check out about 21:30...

So, funnily I came here to say I finally got a GL-100 ($70! Pretty good deal I think), saw this, and ended up just buying a Vortex on Reverb with the original footswitch… will see how this all sounds together in a few days I guess.

The Vortex is a very odd duck - use an expression ig you got one, it's the first to "morph" between two patches in an organic way. And...BLEEN. You'll understand soon.

I'm late to the party, I just saw the JHS video a couple days ago.
I just checked Reverb and it looks like sellers are still asking for an average of about $150 or so.
Lots of them are either "bumped" or lowered price, or both.
Crazy how Josh has so much influence on the pedal market!

If you look at the price history on Reverb and see what they are actually selling for, it's closer to $100 rather than the asking prices we see in the feed which are much higher. reverb.com/p/digitech-bad-monkey-tube-overdrive-2000s-green#price-guideThere are a lot of great TS-based pedals out there with bass and treble controls that are just as versatile. The Xotic BB Preamp, Mojo Hand Rook, Digitech Hardwire CM-2, MXR Custom Badass modified overdrive, Walrus Audio Warhorn, and the Wampler Clarksdale and Seymour Duncan 805 have a 3 band EQs for even more versatility, all selling for about the same price, or less!
