I hate, hate, hate Olympic White et al on Fenders (yet have a couple left, I got my jazzmaster refinned a few years ago to get rid of the color!) - same with black and any reds, etc.
But...my favorite Gibsons are all Arctic White, black, and Wine red or similar.
It doesn't make any rational sense, but...there I am.

I’m with you. I have an aversion to black guitars, in general, because in the pre-public-internet days that’s what a lefty would find in shops - a black guitar.
All that said, black absolutely works on a LP. Gretsch too, for that matter. Not that I have a Gibson or Gretsch in black.
A black LP or a black Gretsch (pretty much any model) remind me of a tuxedo.
I do have a black Charvel stunt guitar.

Yea, I have a black Jazz Bass, a couple Ibanez shredder guitars (a seven string and a "integrated Kaoss Pad model" that was only available in black).
the LP just looks...right in it.
I might just be influenced by the Sonny Sharrock Custom, but...no, neever.

I don't find this phenomenon odd at all.
I see it as a parallel to my opinion that the B.C. Rich body shapes make better guitars than basses.
Sometimes some stuff works and sometimes it doesn't.

I don't think it's that odd. I like both Strats and Telecasters but don't find some colors between the 2 interchangeable.

Nah, it makes sense. Gibsons are more likely to be bound, which will give the color a different look than just a rounded over edge. The pickguards interact with the color differently, as does the hardware. A carved top (when applicable) will give a flat color a look of some depth, too. Even just having a black peghead to complement it makes a difference.
I've never made a guitar purchase wherein I had a color option - I always found something on a rack that I liked and bought it, or got something on eBay. An exception might be a couple that were slapped together from parts. On one I chose a transparent finish, on another I honestly can't remember if I picked the color when I bought the body on eBay or if I was just looking for a decent price.

I love Oly and other white guitars but dislike black regardless of the make, model, or style. However, white on black, like the Shenker Dean V, is okay with me. Maybe I prioritize color over shape.

I haven't had the luxury of picking color on most things, it was a "best I could afford" or "This thing spoke to me" or "It was free" in the case of the contest-winning Oly White P bass. But the few I've chosen color on that it hasn't been "least offensive of the available" - I go with my preferences.

Don’t really care for Black Guitar’s or Basses. I like an Oly White Jazz or P bass but not so much on Guitar. I agree that contrasting binding can enhance a white body or neck.

The humor is all my Gibsons either have "nigh invisible" black binding (on the midnight blue 339) or none (Studios)

I have this semi-neurotic belief that certain guitar models look best in certain colors. Gibson ES-335 Red (with white binding) Gibson Les Paul Red Sunburst Gretsch 6120 Orange (and whatever Electromatic version of the 6120) Fender Telecaster Butterscotch Blonde (also Esquire) Fender Stratocaster Brown Sunburst
And I like them shiny, not relic'd.

I have a goldtop/white binding tele and must say, like the nod, or the finger, however you view Fender's message lol.

As much as I would like the wackiness of an Antigua finish, putting it on a on a Les Paul would be too much.

Tend to agree. Love most blues on a strat , surf green , and love white blonde . Would hate them on a Gibson . Love gold , some type of sunburst , natural , black on Gibson’s . Would hate them on a strat . Exceptions would be that I live natural on a tele , ugly on a strat .

I’m not a fan of the color red, period.
I love the Gibson 335/330 in cherry red. I don’t love the red on Strats or Teles.

Apologies for going OT, Rob, but was getting a refin on the jazzmaster expensive, and how long did it take? I have a jazzmaster I bought from a friend's estate. I like the guitar very much, but not the colour (it's black). I've been toying with the idea of a refin.

I had a friend do it, I didn't have the room at the time to do it.
So I paid for material and bought him a toy or three.

Thanks! She’s one of my favorite builds ever. I like the gold so much I did a matching headstock, which is something I don’t do a lot of.
