I ordered EZkeys 2 and upgraded from EZDrummer 2 to 3 today. I also downloaded a few free virtual instrument plugins. Native Instruments has a free suite that includes Komplete Kontrol. I also installed Iota Mini - a virtual synth, and Piano One. Just fooling around, I created a drum track and a piano part with the Toontrack EZ plugins. Then I created tracks with the other plugins and copied and pasted the midi patterns generated in the EZkeys track into those tracks. In Piano One, the piano part was just duplicated. In the other tracks, I had some interesting results. Daddy Make It Stop: on.soundcloud.com/1szMTFy72HGqXBhV9

Cool!
Virtual instruments are excellent these days. I just got a new EastWest Steinway Model D piano library from Sweetwater last week. It was on sale for $79 so I couldn't pass it up. I've been a user of Superior Drummer 3 for years and had EZ Drummer before that. I have a number of extra sample libraries for Superior Drummer I have accumulated over the years.
Virtual instruments have gotten so good that I sold off all but one of my hardware synths years ago. The only reason I kept the old DX7 was because I like the keyboard action and thought it would be a good idea to have another keyboard to use as a MIDI controller that didn't have weighted keys for programming drums.

I love EZDrummer. I have a bunch of their different kits even though the built in ones are really good too. But if you are ever wanting expansion I highly recommend the Nashville kit. It is awesome and very diverse.

Also the track sounds really smooth Mark, nice feel. We're you looking for some deliberate dissonance around the 1:04 mark? I first thought it was a tuning conflict with the ride cymbal but couldn't lock into it. I've have that happen before until I found that EZDrummer allows pitch tweaks on the individual drum samples.

I was just fooling around to see what would happen if I dropped the midi pattern in various plugin tracks. One interesting result was the lo-fi scratchiness (like an old vinyl record playing). When I mixed the tune I purposely slowly brought in the NI and Iota tracks. The bridge is where things really got dissonant, I guess because the progression changed. This was all without a midi controller - just mouse clicks.

nice layering of instruments, from simple to a complex montage. Great job!

Made me smile ! The building dynamics and release worked well. Made me wish I could make the guitar sustain infinitely ! Some day I'll figure that out.
