Have any of you tried these out? They are carbon fiber, not wood. I stopped in to a guitar shop I had noticed a few times. The people were very nice and said play anything you want, entertain yourself (!). I tried a Takamine that was OK then noticed the Rain Song, it was tagged do not take down without asking. When I asked the owner said the sign was just for teen agers, go ahead. The neck was a little slender but not bad. It sounded like it had coated strings, which I do not like. It was wonderfully in tune up to the 15th fret. Really nice. I kept looking inside wondering what it was. When I asked he said carbon fiber with 1/32 of spruce on the top. Not popular. Ever see one?
Edited to add they are not affected by humidity or temp. Tagged at $2k.

Yep, I've played a few and was pleasantly surprised. I'd love to have one for travel but not for that kind of money. There are a lot of other brands of carbon guitars these days. I played a few of some brand of travel-sized guitars (can't remember the brand) at one time, they were around $700 I think; weren't worth it though, sounded like you would expect any travel guitar to sound. The process for making that stuff requires a LOT of energy from what I understand, if that matters to you...

Lo and I am wondering if you may play them or beneath the sea. Deep, deep beneath the sea.

Reverend Mikey has one. I haven’t seen him around here in a long time.

I've tried a couple of carbon-fibre guitars in stores. I quite liked them. Not so much that I'd specifically look for one, but I can definitely see the appeal for people who play in unpredictable environments. They must be a blessing for pros/semi-pros/travellers who need a stable, reliable, resilient instrument.

I have three. I love the carbon fiber clarity and tone, plus the stability. Two are 12 and 6 string versions of their WS body shape with their old neck style, which is flatter; the third (which was my first) is a small body 12 fret six which has the newer slightly fatter neck. All three are amazing.
I’m a CF fan, I also have an Emerald CF five string ABG that is a cannon.

They really are delightful. Emerald makes some killer guitars, too - less traditional ones.
If I had to pick a single Rainsong, it would be a WS bodied six string.

I walked into Guitar Center and played a Martin X something and really liked it. It has a carbon fiber body with a spruce top wood and the neck was made of a composition of poplar and something else. Can't remember the neck wood used but it sounded very good and had a pickup in the bridge (piezo). The sound was very balanced and had a cutaway, which made it very easy to access the upper frets. For $600, I wish I would have boughten it that day and still pine over not doing it. I think they make a Johnny Cash model that is similar, but these are a step up above that model and would suggest you to try one out. So for an introductory to carbon fiber guitars, I think this is a really good step for not a lot of money.

I'm going to go all aerospace engineer on this so be forewarned.
OK, let's talk carbon fiber or fibre for all you guys across the pond. Carbon fiber is the cloth they use and it comes in many, many different forms, so "carbon fiber" is a broad term for any number of materials.
Next, what is the weave? Again, comes in many varieties and usually the matte is custom woven to the application designer's spec.
OK, now for the 800# gorilla, what is the matrix? You see, carbon fiber by itself has no strength in compression and needs to be in a matrix (aka the glue) of usually EPOXY or polyester resin.
The "stability" of the material is not intrinsic to the carbon fiber, but the matrix. so just because one company got it right doesn't mean that all will. Is it UV proof? is it stable WRT temperature and changing temperatures.
So I guess what I'm saying is you need to be aware that all carbon fiber is not created equal - on purpose btw- so generalizations don't really apply.
The beauty of a carbon fiber structure is its stiffness and its low weight. Bad things are it has no yield point and when it fails it will do so catastrophically with little to no warning.
Some of you know I spend a ridiculous amount on fishing gear. Yes almost all of my rods are carbon fiber with some with as high as 80 million psi modulus. I can tell you they don't last forever and they are fragile.
So yeah, if you need your guitar to be as light and strong as possible get carbon fiber, and carry a Bounce dryer sheet because since they are insulators they are prone to static buildup and popping noises.
Or just buy one if you think it has a cool Formula 1 vibe, that's cool too.

Thanks Chuck, after reading your post I do not think the carbon fiber guitar is the route for me. Static build up would drive me crazy and being fragile on top of that is just not something I wish to contend with.

I have to say I’ve never had static issues with any of my CF guitars.
Also, RainSong just announced they are shutting down.

I just read that the owner of Rainsong is retiring, hence the shutdown.
