Lee is one of my bass heroes. Most of my bass heroes are the veteran studio guys (Carol Kaye, Lee Sklar, Joe Osborne, Duck Dunn, James Jamerson, Bob Babbitt). I think it is because they were so versatile and generally were behind the scenes instead of "look at me" rockstars.
I got to meet Lee (for just a moment) last year. The Wichita Tallgrass Film Festival was premiering Denny (Wrecking Crew) Tedesco's newer documentary, "Immediate Family", which similarly showcases the studio crew that backed up a lot of the '70's singer-songwriters, ala James Taylor. I was waiting for my son outside the venue, when a car pulls up and Denny and Lee get out. There was no one else around, so I approached Lee, shook his hand and told him how much I admire is work.
From all I've seen and heard of Lee, he is a really down-to-earth person and a bassist who's first job is to play just what the song needs.

I first became aware of Rosemary Butler when she was the bass player for the early-'70s, "all-girl" band "Birtha"
