Padded on platina shellac and white mixol, plus a drop of yellow. The body was an abomination sanded back, some unfortunate sanding divots and unfixables. I'm targeting a gracefully aged blonde, maple neck and aged gold hardware already on hand. Gold anodized pickguard on the way. Its gonna take some sanding work when dried. I'm thinking grey scotchbrite followed by a little waxing. This body is on its 3rd incarnation, any more refins/sanding and it'll be a 3/4 Strat, lol.

Wow, that is really nice… dare I say, beautiful?
(I bought a used 1964 tele reissue that I thought had a finish basically like yours, but the slightest bumps knock off thick chunks of paint, revealing apparently unfinished wood.)

The pic doesn't reveal all it's sins. This was a 3 TSB MJT body I won on an Ebay auction probably 11 years ago or so. It was mildly relic'd and the finish was getting "chalky" at the edges, not very attractive. So a year ago or so I stripped it and took a stab at a Mary Kaye relic using a white poly. It wasn't my finest work, lol so in the absence of a NGD I stripped it again and decided to try something a bit more "closet clean". I have one area on the back that I sanded a little too much and created a divot. Since this is staying in the domain of Casa Kiltre I decided to forego any attempt to fill.
I plan on a semi-glossy finish, either by sanding/rubbing/waxing or maybe wipe on poly top coat. It'll be getting the semi-aged gold hardware back on, an Allparts neck that I mentioned in the other thread and a gold anodized pickguard. I expect it to sound and play as before, which was pretty dang good.
There's something quite enjoyable working with dewaxed shellac flakes/Everclear. One of these days I may take a stab at French polishing.

Very cool! I have a lot to learn about hand rubbed finishes.
How hard/protective will it get?

I've only done one other before and its seems pretty stable/hard to me. I've done a neck before in shellac and it too has been durable, but I'm far from a frequent player these days.

Any contact with alcohol is bad news for shellac, that I'm aware of. My perception is shellac is more durable than many people caution.

Yeah, that is way more build/gloss than I would expect from any hand rubbed finish without some poly hiding in there.

I really like the color/finish you have chosen here. Very nice looking Larry

Assembled. Countless things I know that should've (and shouldn't) been done, but it plays and sounds nice. I have it wired with the "Eric Johnson" mod (no tone to middle pickup, 300k volume pot and .1uf cap). It's an interesting change. I wasn't sold on the brightness of the middle pickup at 10, but without a bright cap it rolls off really nice.

Perfect! Far better than anything I could have done Larry. Casa Kiltre has a ring to it

Nice job.
(But no tone control would bug me.)

(But no tone control would bug me.) Yeah, I thought about changing it before I buckled it up but I have 3 other Strats wired the "right" way, so thought I'd keep it for now. To my ears it also offers a little more sparkle to the 2 and 4 positions, but that just might be my tinnitus laughing at me.

My two Strats have either a TBX or no-load tone pot for the middle/bridge pickup. When I go to position 4 I normally open the the middle pickup all the way and roll the neck back a bit. Sounds like you have that built in.

No, not your tinnitis. The middle-neck combo is a little brighter (because in vintage strat wiring all three pots are in parallel in that combination, giving 83 kΩ to ground, but when the middle pickup has no tone control only the volume and one tone pot is connected giving 125 kΩ to ground). BUT, the bridge/middle position will sound identical to what it was before (because only one tone pot is involved either way and position 2 doesn't care if it's tied to position 1 or 3 because position 2 is both position 1 and 3 in parallel). So, no, not your tinnitis, not entirely anyway.
