carvinaudio.com/pages/archive-carvin-belair-2-x-12-50w-all-tube-combo-ampI'm far from an amplifier guru. I've always thought I was hearing good things about many of the Carvin amps. Can anyone with more experience in the nuances of guitar amplifiers give me an idea how the Carvin Belair amp stacks up in the world of guitar amplifiers? What other amps might it be most like?

I had a Nomad @20 years ago. It was ok… and better once I modded it to remove the clipping diodes in the OD channel. The OD channel with the diodes was pretty raspy.
I guess it would compare to a Peavey Classic 30. I had a C30 back then, as well, and I liked it a whole lot more than the Nomad.

It is not a pleasant sound.

The old Carvin Belair's were a very much sought after amp. A lot of people used them for a good 'clean' based amp for their pedals or pedalboards. I'm not sure of or if anyone mentioned any mods done to them but most people have held on to them and kept them tuned up. The only thing I ever heard anyone mention was that they had changed the tubes for a more stout EL84. Maybe Pete might chime in here as he was a regular on the Peavey and other amp forums and can give you the information you seek.

One thing I could add, I own a Carvin X100B.
I should probably check on how it is set up. The basic configuration might be similar.

As I recall, it is not similar.
