We went to Arizona between Christmas a New Years to visit my wife's son and I crossed four things from my list in one week. They live just over an hour from the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert, and 3 hours from the Grand Canyon. We visited all three that were on the list. We also toured much of Historic Route 66 including Winslow (we stood on the corner) and Oatman, which is an old west style town famous for its wild donkeys that roam the streets.
As a bonus, my BIL runs a shooting range and happened to be hosting a long range shooting contest. They let me shoot a 6MM Creedmoor and I hit a 10" target at 1,000 yds on the 5th shot (after correcting for windage). It impressed the competitors because it took most of them 5 shots. It wasn't on my bucket list but it was a still a highlight of the trip.
Next for me would probably be skydiving.
Anything on your list that you've crossed off recently?

The Grand Canyon is something everybody should see at least once.

lol! There are plenty of signs around town with this theme...
The Grand Canyon is something everybody should see at least once.
Absolutely! Pictures CANNOT do justice to the immensity, beauty, and majesty of seeing it firsthand.

Don't think I've ever been anyplace else where the visuals at any given spot change so much over the course of a single day. Factors such as cloud cover, particulate matter in the atmosphere, sun angle and so on can change the "mood" so drastically in such a short time.
Very entertaining to watch the crows play in the powerful thermals at the south rim. They never seem to tire of it.
And no: "snapshots" can not capture the scale and panoramic majesty of the place. The desert southwest vistas have a way of making a person feel very small and insignificant.

After researching the difference between crows and ravens, you’re probably right. Ravens have larger beaks, shinier feathers, and more extensive wingspans.

I'm curious of how high you had to aim to compensate for the 1,000 yard length? I read somewhere that 23' was approximate for 6mm @ 1,000 yards. Does that sound right?

Any “bucket list” aspersions for me are more internal as opposed to going someplace or seeing something or even experiencing something.
If there is something I really desire to see or do, I just go see it or do it. I’m pretty content in my own skin that way.
No list exists on paper or even in my mind.

We did a segment of route 66 from SE Kansas to the Grand canyon in '22. Great trip....saw the iconic sights (blue whale, Cadillac Ranch, Winslow, stayed in the hotel with teepees, painted desert, petrified forest, Grand canyon, etc). The Grand Canyon and Albuquerque (thanks to Bugs Bunny) we're the only bucket list items for that trip.
Coincidentally, I've been building a match grade Creedmore....just waiting on glass...and I'll be going to the long distance range near Des Moines.
Hoping to cross the UK off my list soon. Then America's Great Loop.

Unusual, in that his trio was rarely augmented by drums of any kind: BTW: don't miss the Andy Devine Museum if you're in Kingman.
