Was going through the CD collection and spun up the best of CD.
I forgot how good this cat was. RIP

yeah, I agree. He doesn't get much love on this site, but you won't see another like him soon.

While I love EC as much as the next guy, he's pretty much a traditional blues purist. To my ear, Beck is a far more original, inventive and dynamic player who usually overlays an element of humor and playfulness over his obvious virtuosity. Nowhere is that more obvious than in this clip which, being in Clapton's wheelhouse, should've allowed him to shine. By comparison, his playing sounds almost stodgy: One of my alltime fav JB tunes:

If you’ve never heard/seen it, you owe it to yourself to watch him, Tal Welkinfeld, Vinny Colaiuta and Jason Rebello at Ronny Scott’s. It’s outstanding. Of course, with that quartet of musicians, how could it be anything but?

Yes, the Ronnie Scott show was a must see. IMO. I think Tal matched Jeff lick for lick. Looked pretty spontaneous.

I admire him as a player, but I've never really been able to get into his music (and I've REALLY tried). I like some of the early JBG stuff with Rod Stewart and Bobby Tench, and Wired is okay, but that's about it.

I feel that he sometimes got carried away with his wiggle stick in some of his later tracks, but was always willing to at least give a listen to anything new he put out.

I love how he gets stoked over Tal’s playing. It’s been one year today since he left this earth. Rest in peace Jeff.
