A bit of searching the inner webs I learned the “audio taper” is the one that has minimal response at the beginning and end of the sweep. The control mostly occurs between say 4 and 8 on the knob.
The “linear taper” has the more consistent response through the entire sweep.
Seems there is no right or wrong per-say.
The linear taper seems to make better sense (to me) but the source I read indicated that for most players the audio taper seems to be the more desirable choice for volume and linear taper for tone.
In the end the suggestion was, try them out, swap them around and decide what it is “I” think is most desirable.
At least now I understand the difference. 🙂

Those look similar to the Mallory 150s I love having on hand, but probably a bit nicer, maybe like the mojotone dijon. I find the lead style to be really nice to work with, too. Agreed on paper and oil... good ones are great, I'm sure, but it is probably a case of people trying to duplicate something great and ending up with disappointment... like reclaimed Brazilian. I really liked the mojotone "vitamin T"... oil and polyester. Checked the website, and I'm not seeing anything in guitar values, so not sure what's going on there. I think they're rebranded so they could be tracked down somewhere else. tl;dr, cap composition/brand makes a difference, but not as much as some want you to think, and I don't think I'd pay more than the cost of a set of strings on one. I've done the A/B comparisons and can hear a difference, but if someone changed my caps in the middle of the night and didn't tell me, I'm not sure I'd notice, either.

Leftee, I presume this "GuitarElectronics.com" is a normal supplier for you?
I'd like to get everything I need in one stop.
They have the suggested higher quality stuff.

I’ve used them. And they have an awesome wiring diagram library.
I mostly use guitarpartsfactory.us although I have a couple of other sources I use from time to time.

I put in some shielding. I've never been very good at making this look as nice as some of you, but I think it's functional. Electronics cavity: SHIELD 2 by Larry Madsen, on Flickr SHIELD 1 by Larry Madsen, on Flickr

That looks great. I don’t make a big deal out of how it looks. It’s all hidden any ways.

PUP cavities shielded. Anything else I need to be doing with this process? PUP cavities shielded by Larry Madsen, on Flickr I purchased the electronics. For pots I purchased 4 Bourns Knurled Shaft 3/8” Bushing Potentiometer, 500K ... 2 Audio taper and 2 Linear taper. I undecided about which I will install. I might mix them as I noted in that previous post. I ordered a Swictchcraft 3-way toggle. I have a jack here on hand. And a couple of these caps: .022uf 200v 715P Orange Drop Film Cap 5% Tolerance - Small Size Hopefully this will get me set up for all the electronic aspects.

Would this be a good wiring schematic for me to use? Filtertron wiring for Tele by Larry Madsen, on Flickr I can add: I finally made it to the instructions and SD is calling for .047 caps. That though is using double volume and tone pots.. Obviously, I'll be one and one.

Parts came in ... getting closer IMG_6051 by Larry Madsen, on Flickr A quick test fit on the bridge, and it checks out well. All mounting bridge holes and string thru holes seem to line up perfectly with the body holes. Tuners are Fender locking and should be a direct fit as well.

Shielding looks fine! The important parts are 1 - make sure it is grounded (it is counter productive for noise if it isn't) and 2 - make sure it isn't loose or can touch lugs on components when everything is assembled, since that'll short it out.

Speaking of grounded shielding.
Would that then include running ground to each of the shielded PUP cavities?

Are those tuners drop-ins or will they require dilling pilot holes for the nubs? I have an MIK Blackout HH with the carved top and I could not find Fender tuners that didn't require some sort of drilling.

I have an MIK Blackout HH with the carved top and I could not find Fender tuners that didn't require some sort of drilling. I bought them believing they would "drop in". The guitar is drilled for the factory nubs. In the end the nubs on these tuners are spaced farther from the shaft and what the guitar is drilled. I did in the end have to drill new holes just a fraction out from the existing.

Thanks Ricky
I put some strings on it tonight. Tweaked the truss rod a bit, adjusted the saddles and set the intonation.
I’d call it a basic first “rough” set-up. All seems well so far.
These Filtertrons certainly do sound different than any of my other guitars and that was the point of this build. 👍🏻
