Ear worms seem to be more sticky than they used to be for me. I had the James Gang's 'Walk Away' stuck in my head for at least two weeks recently. And it was specifically the extra-hard-rockin' Live version of the song. I like the song a lot but I feared it might never leave. Then, all of a sudden, it was replaced by 'Ashokan Farewell'. This was so powerfully stuck in my head that I found myself whistling along to the tune. Anyone else experiencing long-lasting or powerful ear worms?

I love that version of 'Walk Away', especially the fuzzed-out bass in the intro.

Sometimes my ear worms turn into trips down rabbit holes on YT. I started listening to Edgar Winter’s “Keep Playing That Rock And Roll”. Sat down with my guitar and re-learned it. Then watched a recent interview he had and his Emmy acceptance for his Brother Johnny tribute album. Then I bought it. Just about every blues and blues-based American picker is on it: Keb Mo, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Billy Gibbons, Joe Bonamassa, Derek Trucks, Luke, Phil X, Joe Walsh, Robben Ford, David Grissom, Warren Haynes, and a guy I’ve never heard before but he’s outstanding - Doug Rappoport.

"Sometimes my ear worms turn into trips down rabbit holes on YT"
YouTube Rabbit Holes are even worse than ear worms. Those holes can eat up hours of time. Come to think of it, YouTube is probably what is spawning most of my ear worms.

The only way I can eradicate one earworm song from my brain is to substitute another. Which, by default, becomes the new earworm. Sometimes the replacement doesn't "take" and the old worm bleeds back in. For me, this is especially true of "Final Countdown," the School of Rock version.

Yah I'm always humming or whistling something... If nothing else I'll hum chords and harmonies to the drone of the tractor motor or zero turn... I also read road signs while I'm driving and translate the words into Morse code. My brain is a never ending din of sound.
People are always saying I must be very happy since I hum or whistle all the time, i tell them it's the way I release my insanity.
