I have been using some different Extech multimeters (The latest a 430A). It was decent for my purposes but seems the quality is suffering lately and it bit the dust just outside of warranty. After looking at many meters I gave up and ordered a Fluke 117 from nearby Mouser Electronics. We used Flukes at work with great success. This is not their “big guns” unit but it is clearly better than the Extech’s in operation and perceived quality and comes with a 3 year warranty. www.instrumart.com/assets/fluke117_datasheet.pdf

On an added note, I was checking an L.E.D. and surprised as it turned it on and lit dimly. That made me smile. The display when lit is much brighter than the other meters I have had in the past including the Fluke 77 we had at work before I retired. Absolutely love this meter.

Welcome to the club! I broke down and bought a Fluke a few years ago. In hindsight it was a wise investment. It's already lasted longer than the cheap ones I owned before it.

I'd love a Fluke 87V, but they're $$$. When I was getting into amp building I bought an Amprobe AM570 and it's been great.

I have an old Amprobe current meter the clips around the wire from the late 1970’s. Amprobe typically had put out good stuff.

After using the Fluke 117 for more than 2 weeks the value of this meter has been exceptional for design and repairs. Absolutely love this thing!
