Ok, two pups. No tone or volume knobs in this question. Both pups go up and down, and tilt forward and backwards.
It seems I’m not getting the switch in the middle position to sound like both pickups together. It sounds closer to the neck position by a lot. I’ve gone up and down, tilts with both pups and can’t get it to sound that way…in the middle, some of the neck and some of the bridge.
This is a squire, Indonesian made, 40th Anniversary Jazzmaster…vintage edition. Surprisingly, to me, the Fender designed pickups sound very good. Bridge and middle are strong sounding.
How to position the pups for that great sounding middle position?
Thoughts and advice appreciated. Thanks

Just for grins, grab a screwdriver and tap the pole pieces in the middle position and verify that the bridge pickup is even on. Sometimes with those three ways that can happen. It can be a funny solder joint or a dirty switch.

Ok, dirty switch it seems. I was dreading taking off the pickguard to check the wiring. Too many switches and screws to take out.
I took the nut off of the switch, sprayed it, and wiggled it around. After a couple of sprays and wiggling it worked. Now, I can really hear the difference. I can hear when I switch it to the neck and the bridge, and in the middle I get both. (after a little more pickup height adjustments)
Thanks funky, don't know your first name. One of those, why didn't I think of that?

Well, it is counter intuitive when the pickup works when solo'ed, so it is easy to overlook!
