I had mentioned previously that Queenie had purchased a new 2023 Honda CR-V in May.
I had mentioned a couple of days ago in another thread that we would be paying it off next week.
Well, while on our way to a local hole-in-the-wall bar for some easy dinner …
We were T-Boned by a driver running a red light at an intersection along the way.
Don’t know yet if the Honda will be “Totaled” or not.
Good news is neither of us were busted up too bad. Bruised up pretty good, but actually feel fortunate that we came out this well.
The offending drive actually admitted (to me) she was trying to beat a yellow light.
Pretty disheartening deal. 😒

Glad you're both OK. Keep monitoring your condition and get a full medical exam if you haven't already: some symptoms may not show up "the day of".

This occurred on Tuesday evening. We went to see a doctor yesterday afternoon (Wednesday).
Doc just told us to keep close attention to our condition over the next few days, especially if things seem to worsen in any way.
I think I might have sustained some degree of concussion. The car hit us on my (passenger) side and threw me sideways into the door. Pretty much a full body slam into the door. Seat belt doesn’t real prevent sideways motion so well. Air bags on my side did deploy or I may have had much more serious injuries up high.
Queenie’s seat belt actually caused most of her bruising.

Sorry to hear, Larry. Glad you both walked away from it.
I hope they total the CR-V. It will probably never be right.

Sorry to hear, Larry. Glad you both walked away from it. I hope they total the CR-V. It will probably never be right. Thanks Ken, and everyone for the support. I am hoping, to an extent, that the car is repairable. Obviously, I'd want it "good as new", but the damn thing is paid for. I'd hope to not have to put in another several thousand $$$ shopping for a new car. I guess another few days will tell us that story.

Damn, not good but certainly could have been worse. Not so much an accident as an incident. I hope police were called. I hope she got ticketed. Really watch your health!

Not so much an accident as an incident. Agreed on that for sure. As mentioned, she admitted to me what her intent was ... trying to "beat a yellow".

Glad you and Queenie are OK, Larry. My nephew got T-Boned a few months back by a tow truck. 6 broken ribs, a punctured lung, company car totaled. It's a dangerous world out there on the streets. Hope your car is repairable.

Good to hear you’re OK.
With the damage I see I think if the air bags have popped the insurance company would usually total a car.

Often, with extensive front end damage, the car may be cosmetically repairable, but the frame/pan made not be. There was a guy where I used to work who had a buddy that worked at a junkyard. As a moonlight, they would take "totalled" cars, replace/repair the damaged body panels and repaint them and then sell them. More often than not, the cars' front suspension could not be properly aligned because of the damage to the undercarriage wasn't "made completely right". Maybe a more talented frame straightener could've done it, but whoever was repairing the frames for these dudes wasn't that guy. Bottom line was: the cars looked great, but the new owners (who thought they'd "gotten a deal") soon found that these cars had a voracious appetite for tires because the front ends couldn't be aligned.

Great News: You walked away from it.
Not so great news: The car is probably totaled if the airbags deployed. (That's what I've always heard.)

I told my earlier, "From now on, spidey senses on 100% of the time". There are just too many distracted and reckless people on the road. A lot of the roads we drive on locally are narrow, have no shoulder and drop down 6 to 8 feet into a ditch. You couple that with the abundance of Bubba pickups with mirrors sticking out and a 55mph speed limit and its no wonder you can hear emergency vehicles on the hour.

There are just too many distracted and reckless people on the road. That's why I stopped riding both motorcycles and bicycles on pavement: too many risk factors that are completely beyond my control. Had my share of close calls: done.

Yeah, my first and best childhood friend got killed on a motorcycle when he was just 20. That incident was enough to cure my scooter lust. AK, I’ve had good friends die in motorcycle accidents and car accidents. I’ve had two friends lose limbs in cycle accidents and some in car accidents. None of what occurred to my friends had anything to do with my enjoyment of cars or bikes, you can’t let fear control your life. My wife and I have spent 40 years touring on motorcycles that covered 48 states (several multiple times), seven Canadian provinces (even visited jon965 in Newfoundland), and a little jaunt into Mexico. I did put the bike down once in Frederick, Maryland, but after bending and adjusting stuff we were back on the road with some bruises in a couple of hours. I was t-boned once in my car when I was sitting at a stop sign waiting to get on a state highway and a car coming from my left lost it on the ice and I couldn’t back up to get out of his way. I slapped the car in reverse and looked in the mirror to find a county snowplow directly behind me so I was forced to sit and take the hit. No matter what the possibilities…I’ve never let fear dictate my life. I enjoy Harleys and cars and a lot of other things like sky-diving and performing on stage. It’s all part of living a great life!

Side notes: She hit 3 cars. Us another KIA and a Gas Company truck.
We are betting she has just minimum coverage on her car. The car still had a DMV paper temporary plate. Her policy went into effect on the 25th, she hit us on the 26th. She showed a Nevada ID card, not a driver license. If we are correct and she has only 20k of damage coverage she can't possibly cover the damage she has done.
As I mentioned, she told me she was trying to out-run a yellow light. I timed the light (nothing else to do while waiting). From the time her light turns yellow to the time our light turns green is 7 seconds. Then we have some reaction time at the turn of green for Queenie, then the time it takes to get across the west bound lane and into the east bound lane the lady was running in. She said, "I couldn't stop". I responded, "you must have been driving ridiculously fast".
Anyway, all three drivers she hit tell the exact same story, "we were on green and she ran into us".
Hopefully they sort out the estimate issue on Queenie's car quickly.

Laker, I don't look at it as fear as much as a push into disinterest. I had another friend in high school that everyone thought for sure would kill himself on his motorcycle. He died sitting at an intersection and got hit by a drunk driver. My brother rides, has multiple motorcycles. I get it. The bug just never bit me.
