We were in the direct path of it. People around here (Hot Springs Village, AR) lost their minds for a couple of months leading up to it. Sorry, and to each their own, but I think I’d have almost been just as happy watching a favorite re-run on TV. That said, it was rather strange watching everything go dark for a few minutes at 2:00 in the afternoon.

I don't know where we were at with totality here by Houston, I think something like 93%. But the weather was dismal and we just got more dismal for a few minutes. I did catch a wee sliver that looked like a fingernail through the clouds. I pity all those folks who made trips to Texas just to catch it. It's cool when something rare occurs like this, but...eh, that was so yesterday.

It was pretty cool everything going dark during totality at around 1:40pm in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Mid Cities area.

I had no interest but did peek out the window to see if it had gotten dark when it was supposed to be at it's peak but that's when the clouds decided to make a cameo, so less than anti climactic in these parts.

I was in the path of totality in the '17 one.
It depends honestly on the person how it impacts them.
It was a religious experience for me, literally.

We went to see the total eclipse in 2017 and immediately started looking to see when the next one was. We drove 30 hours round trip to Waco to see this one.
Wife wanted to do the magnolia farms thing. We got an air bnb for our extended family ( one lives in Texas) and had a great time.
Forecast was not promising but the clouds parted for almost all of it, including the totality.
Hoping I live long enough to see another...

Lesterstrat, did you take off eye protection during totality? Did you see the two diamond rings and the corona and all that? I did for four minutes, from a cemetery in Kipton Ohio. I thought it was profound. The most dense four minutes of my life.

Was in the path of totality in Indianapolis. Got tired of all the promotions going on and the countdown over the last month but it was really cool to witness! They charged people to watch it at the Speedway and drew around 50,000 people. Don't think I'll be able to see the next one here in 2253!

I also noticed what some folks said was a planet off to the right. Other than that, I don't know what I was looking at. lol

Drove a couple hours to Walnut Beach in Ashtabula, Ohio on Lake Erie.
Clear sky totality for 4-1/2 minutes. It was spectacular! Hundreds of people simultaneously reacting to the beginning of totality was actually quite moving. It became pretty dark and quite chilly with the lake a few yards away. When the sun peeked out, the Canadian side of the Lake lit up Eriely (Pun).
There was a group of renaissance looking characters pounding on Bongo, Conga, and hand held Bodh'ran drums for about an hour steady while staring at the sun thru their protective glasses. Their timing was really good and they added a strange ambience to the event. Can't help wondering where they perform in between eclipses, lol.
All in all, a well behaved crowd. Some were there for bucket list ✔️ and other's for spiritual reasons. We went for the former and left feeling the latter.

They'll likely go back to their private land (if they're smart and well off enough) or to a public park if they're not.

Lesterstrat sed: " I noticed a red dot at the bottom of the ring. I also noticed what some folks said was a planet off to the right." That was a "solar prominence" and the planet Venus.

I ended up settling down in a cemetery in rural Kipton Ohio, a bit more than a crossroads place, right on US20. Selecting the cemetery had more to do with the time getting late and me being less comfortable with other options than anything else. In retrospect I think it was a good call, there were ten other souls (live) there in four parties. Pretty hard core as I think about it. \m/

We were directly in the totality. At full eclipse, we were stunned by how amazing it looked. I got a great picture that I’ll try to post later. The totally blacked out moon with the sun’s corona was breathtaking.
I remember being in a total eclipse as a kid, but I couldn’t fully appreciate it like this one.

We were just on the patio of our AirBnB during the totality, but we could hear people cheering at the moment it started.

The family home is north of Buffalo and we drove 30 miles down lake Erie shore to Angola-on-the-lake to get closer to the edge of the clearing front that was coming up from Cleveland. Alas, it didn't work out for us. We had some nice glimpses of the partial phases but no breaks in the cloud cover for totality. Mother-in-law was furious we didn't stay back up at the city, where it seems like most people saw at least a few seconds of totality! Still, we made the best decision we could at the time and Mother Nature gave us what she did. And it was still spectacular. Darkness fell so quickly, the sunset colors around us on the horizon were spectacular, and the light coming back after totality was like the fastest sunrise you've ever known.
