He was a pretty talented guy with lots of personal demons.
Way back in the day, we were at a Rossington-Collins concert when they still had open floor seating. We were standing about 50’ from.the stage and my buddy motioned for me to look to our right. There about 20’ away stood Betts by himself in an army fatigue jacket grooving to the band. No one bothered him. I suspect most didn’t recognize him.

Live at the Fillmore East shaped a lot of my guitar playing back in the day. RIP Dickey.

RIP.
So Jaimoe is now the last living, origin ABB member, right?

I just watched an interview from a few months ago. It seems his mind was half gone. So sad!
Here's my favorite song from Dickie and a top ABB song for me.

The obstructive pulmonary disease could do that. Poor blood flow can present as dementia.
A friend of my wife recently passed from undiagnosed OPD. He had been spiraling down, mentally, for months ahead of that. Once the fatal heart attack took him, it was understood.

Rest in Peace Dickey. After all these years, this is still one of my favorite instrumentals.

Dang, not only is there just one, original band member left alive, some of the "replacements" (Lamar Williams, Dan Toler and Allen Woody) have also passed.
Rough lifestyle, I reckon...

It does seem wild that so many of these bands few or no remaining members. I was listening to The Band and it's still weird thinking that Garth is the only one left. I suppose 50 years from now the story will be the same and someone will post "It's hard to believe the Rolling Stones are touring with only 1 original member".

I've listened to a lot of ABB yesterday.
So glad I grew up in that era. ABB, Kansas, Fogelberg, Eagles, Floyd, Beatles, Zepplin, Who, Cream, CSNY, Doobies, Skynyrd, Purple, and on and on. That stuff shaped my life.
RIP Mr. Betts

Yeah, but he made it to 80.
Here's a good one. Second cut at about 4:35 surprises me they were able to do it. Out of their regular wheelhouse.
