That you bought with your own money:
Mine was "Animals" by Pink Floyd. I thought the cover was so cool. I went home and cranked it on my older brother's stereo. My WWII vet Dad came storming and said "Turn that ---- down!".

Cream: Wheels of Fire (live). Birthday money. I got Sergeant Pepper's before that, but it was a Christmas present.

Beach Boys Concert. The one released in the fall of 1964.
I was a Beach Boys fan, then I learned that their songs were written by someone who was the oldest of three sons, just like me. I was also getting a tad pudgy and had learned that if you wear vertically striped shirts, you look slimmer.
So there, in the middle of the album cover photo, is Brian Wilson, the oldest brother. He has become a tad pudgy, and (like the rest of the group) is wearing a vertically striped shirt.
A FDPer of old, I think his handle was Cliff Adams, said that the album was actually recorded in the studio and the crowd noise was dubbed over later.

So many of "my" albums were appropriated from my brothers. I think my first album purchase may have been Moody Blues Seventh Sojourn.

Wow, a long time ago! As far as I can remember, I’d say it was Meet the Beatles.

Tough one.
First albums I ever owned were Led Zep IV and Bridge Over Troubled Water, but they were Xmas presents, so I’m going to go for........ Led Zep II

The Kingsmen Vol. II, 1964. $2.88 at Neisner's 5/10. The price tag is still on it - on the sleeve itself. Weird, no shrink wrap.

I can't recall exactly but it was probably either Curtis Mayfield "Curtis" or "Melting Pot" by Booker T & the MGs.

You guys were way cooler than me. I am pretty sure it was Partridge Family 'Sound Magazine' (which I still love)! Or it was Jim Croce - the album with Leroy Brown. I later realized what a monster performer he was. My first-ever experience "performing" was with my sister and the boy next door, we "performed" for a few neighborhood folks lip-synching to Partridge's 'Rainmaker' from that album, with me pretending to play the acoustic guitar I was holding. We practiced all afternoon for that single-song-gig. I was hooked. 50+ years later I still wanna be a rock star.

"with me pretending to play the acoustic guitar I was holdin' no worries, they didn't play their instruments either Have to be honest, I miss having a LIKE button. This made me laugh out loud! The people who DID play on that record are very good (including the great Hal Blaine.)

Horizon by The Carpenters - 1975 I need to buy another copy. edit - bought it again. CD arrived. What a gorgeous voice. Not a particularly cool first album. It does, however, resonate with a chap in his late fifties. A prescient first album.

I think it was Chicago. My sister gave me Are You Experienced and Axis Bold As Love before that, but I didn't buy those. Don't know where she got them, but she was into Patty Duke and Doris Day, so they really weren't her thing. Good for me.

Elvis - '68 Comeback Special soundtrack. I was 8 or 9 years old. There are still parts of it I have memorized form the hundreds of times I played it on my plastic portable record player.
