I have seen a lot of skin ink over the years. The one thing I've never seen is a tattoo of a tattoo. Here's a tattoo for reference, should you wish to get one.

I have two, both done in the last two months.
The first was a memorial tattoo for my late wife. It’s a monochrome version of *her* first tattoo, a triquetra knot on my upper left arm. The second is for me, a stylized stag on my upper right arm. Both are black, and not huge.
Together they form a reflection of my faith, the Goddess on my left and the God on my right. I chose their locations to keep them from casual view, I got them for her and me - not to make a public statement.

I would advise strongly against deep, philosophical pronouncements and Tupac-corns when selecting tatt subject matter:

I have a certain name on the inside of my right wrist; it's "visible" but not ostentacious, and just black Enochian lettering. Done by a gentleman who was aware of what it was and what he was doing. A particular sign of my own religious obligation that could not be taken from me, and a reminder of WHY I am up and about and recovering.

I kept tax-free until 50, despite repeated drunken visits to tattoo parlors with friends in my youth.
After divorcing I figured it was time. I got a well-designed Thors hammer representing my breaking out. Then a Vegvisir in memory of my dad, who "lost his way" in Alzheimers. My latest has been an attempt to embrace my age. Its MCMLVI. I'm ready for my next one...

Like the Celtic knotwork, HD. I considered getting one with an interlocking circle/triangle, but never pulled the trigger.

As a visual experience, I tend to prefer either understated ones like HD's or the full-on Yakuza treatment. When people opt to go full-body, it's nice when there is compositional and thematic continuity as with most of the Japanese "body suits" I've seen.
Just an opinion: your results may differ.

I had a tattoo of a Les Paul done on my chest. The first time I coughed the headstock broke. ☹

Yep. You can’t be a rockstar if you don’t have ink. 😎

I got one in my right shoulder. Two car engine pistons on fire and the words “Rock and Roll”.
