If you haven't yet watched the new TV show, "Deputy," starring Stephen Dorff, don't bother. It's supposed to be based on the LA County Sheriff Department that I retired from, but is so full of inaccuracies and laugh inducing nonsense, that it's more caricature than cop.
Nutshell: due to a dusty old County law, the oldest deputy in the mounted posse is appointed sheriff of the 10,000 man department, when the elected sheriff dies of a heart attack.
(In real life the Sheriff's Posse does things like ride their horses in parades, patrol shopping mall parking lots, concerts and the like. Most of the 130 members are civilians who aren't authorized to do any actual law enforcement.)
Anyway, Sheriff Dorff gets sworn in and immediately begins engaging in vehicle pursuits, kicking in doors, taking down drug operations, and making pithy statements about how cops should do more ass kicking. If anyone notices that he sports a month of beard growth and carries the Smith and Wesson six shooter that the department dumped back in 1989 or so, in favor of the Beretta 92F, nothing is mentioned.
Think Dirty Harry taking command of Seal Team 6, and telling the brass to stick it in their ear, as he commandeers a Blackhawk and takes on the Mexican drug cartels, borders be damned.

A cop show that isn't real to life?
I'm going to have to watch it now.
11 hours and 50 minutes of boredom......

I get why it wouldn't work for you, given your background. I found it at least watchable, but then I gave up the expectation of much realism from most TV or movies long ago.
