From my friend Steve Herberman on Facebook:
"I'm so sad to hear the news about the passing of the great Bucky Pizzarelli this evening. He was such a great person and a guitar giant who always used to teach musicians about the unsung players from the past. In the lineage of 7 string guitar he came right after George Van Eps. He was more than just a great 7 string guitarist though. He was a champion of rhythm guitar, the music of Bix Biederbecke and so much more. My sincere condolences to his family. Bucky's music will live on through his many recordings and students. A very sad day considering that the great Ellis Marsalis has just passed away and also Wallace Roney, just the other day. A huge blow to humanity and music."
Apparently another victim of covid 19.
Bucky was one of the greats in his day - working sessions as/with the best session players of the time. He had a great run. His son will carry the torch and do it well.
Here is a cool cut of many NYC session musicians, including Bucky, playing on George Barnes' "Guitars Galore" album in the early 60s. George called having these 10 guitarists instead of big band horns his "guitar choir".
Rest in Peace, Bucky.

oh my, speechless, though most certainly a life well lived, he literally did it all. master guitarist that covered every genre from the 30s onward.
One particular time caught him in a solo performance at Temple University in Philly in the 80s, he was phenomenal, a friend and I hung out w him earlier in the day, he was full of great old stories..
isn't that him on Roberta Flack's The First Time? I think so, just one of many huge tunes he played on...
rip Maestro...
