Both on Amazon: Kind of an Australian "We Were Soldiers", so not a good choice if you're looking for belly laughs or a relaxing evening. Travis Fimmel, who plays the lead character in this, also played "Ragnar Lothbrok" in the series "Vikings". "Danger Close" (2019): www.imdb.com/title/tt0441881/One to avoid: I liked Matthew McConaughey in "Lincoln Lawyer" and his acting was good in this one as well, but that couldn't save the ridiculous script. “Serenity” (2019): www.imdb.com/title/tt6476140/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2

On Amazon: "The City of Lost Children" (1995) Some movies I can enjoy purely on the strength of the visuals. If you think you might like...(how should I characterize it...maybe "steampunk, surrealist horror/fantasy"?)...then this might be up your alley. The plot is simple and fairy tale-like, but it's way too creepy for little kids. Extremely dream-like with very cool set design and costumes. Ron Pearlman was the only actor I recognized. Dialog is in French with subtitles, but it's primarily a visual experience anyway. I found it quite entertaining (but I've been told I have strange tastes). www.imdb.com/title/tt0112682/

The Devil All The Time - Netflix, movie. We watched that one and thought it was well done. However, it's certainly not a candidate if a person is looking for something to "lift their spirits" or provide a positive view of human nature.

On Amazon: "Talmadge Farlow" (1981) a documentary piece on jazz guitarist Tal Farlow. Being a long time fan via LPs/CDs, I really enjoyed watching/listening to footage of him performing. www.imdb.com/title/tt0294955/

Mrs. Wilson is a 3 part mini series that's Free on Prime but only until the end of the month. Not much action but a good historical drama apparently based on a true story. It's set in England early 60's. Her husband, a successful writer and retired WWII spy, dies unexpectedly (not a spoiler, it's how the tale begins). Parts of his past come to light which she knew nothing about. Worth noting the lead role is played by Ruth Wilson (no relation to the title character). You may know her as the sexy and mysterious Alice in the great crime/detective series Luther starring Idris Elba. Mrs. Wilson is quite an impressive acting stretch from her part in Luther, and she does really well.

I'm about four episodes into Ratched, but it's kinda losing me.

I'm about four episodes into Ratched, but it's kinda losing me. That was about the point where it started getting crazy. You then realize it’s not fully about the character we know from the movie and could’ve been an independent story with a brand new character and it would’ve been the same.

Me too, out at half-time into the pilot already when this was going nowhere one would have hoped for in reminiscence of the cuckoos' nest character.
Same about The Trial Of The Chicago 7. Disappointing, because of what would have been possible with the staff/real life figures/plot.

Re: "Mrs. Wilson" - this story line is based on what actually happened to actress Ruth Wilson's grandmother, Alison.
Amazon Prime - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Runnin Down a Dream
Netflix - Kingdom (there are a couple of different shows named "Kingdom" floating around so just be aware that this one is subtitled from South Korean and appears to be a historical palace drama, at least until the killer zombies start showing up...)

Good one for Stones fans: "Totally Stripped". Starts out with them playing acoustic in the studio and progresses through a 1995 tour of small venues. Maybe everyone else here has already seen it. I hadn't: www.imdb.com/title/tt12828690/Free on Amazon Prime.

Probably late to the party but just seen Lynyrd Skynyrd If I Leave Here Tomorrow from 2018 and thought it one of the better documentaries. Lots of captured moments on camera. Amazon

I had heard good things about "The Queen's Gambit," so we checked it out last night. Outstanding!
You wouldn't expect a show about a young girl who plays chess to be all that great, but it really is. Season one is done, seven episodes.

Available now on Amazon Prime. My favorite Robert Duvall flick. At his best as a worn out, down on his luck country singer. It's a love story of sorts but not a sappy one. Duvall wrote his own songs and does a nice job on the vocals. features Tess Harper, Wilford Brimley, Ellen Barkin along with a mostly lesser known but excellent cast. Good story and fine acting.

Thanks for the heads up: I haven't seen that since it was in theaters and agree that it's excellent.

If you’re looking for a frivolous one, check out Lucifer on Netflix. Devil gets bored and comes to Earth to live in Los Angeles, and the hilarity that ensues.
I was looking for a new show that did NOT involve police investigation with a surly yet effective civilian consultant (White Collar and The Mentalist being two I re-watched recently).
That was a total fail, because believe it or not, that’s exactly what happened in Lucifer, Devil turned law enforcement consultant. Can’t believe that happened.
While I’m mentioning it, if you never watched White Collar, that was a great show. Art thief/forger turned FBI consultant. And the hilarity that ensues. One of my top 10 all time shows actually, outstanding characters.

I just watched a documentary about the Beastie Boys on Apple TV. I was never a big fan, but I figured why not.
The actual format of this thing is, the two surviving members of the band, on stage in front of a live audience, telling their story in front of a huge screen showing pictures and video clips from throughout their career.
It was very interesting, funny, and it really was the format of it that made it great. You don’t ever see a band taking 2 hours to lay out their whole career on stage in front of an audience. I recommend it.

Yea, the story is not about chess, the game.
Give it a shot, you might get hooked. I did.
