"The Hollywood Collection: Robert Mitchum"
Watched it tonight on Amazon.
The man, himself throws out some wry comments reflecting his thoughts regarding his chosen profession.
He's always been a favorite of mine and watching this reminded me of four of my favorite movies in which he starred:
•"Out of the Past" (1947)
•"Cape Fear" (1962)
•"The Yakuza" (1974)
•"Farewell My Lovely" (1975)

Awww heck, for a minute there, TD, I thought you were saying The Yakuza is up on Amazon. Wish it was. I haven't seen that one in years. Later in his career Mitchum made some really great movies and TV movies, that was one of them. Going back to his earlier work, must not leave out the gritty classic "Thunder Road". Great cast including brother James. It's all about moonshine, bootlegging, and smuggling illegal booze past the revenuers by racing down the back country roads. The iconic theme song was written and sung by Robert, and he's no slouch as a singer either.

In real life, the guy was the antithesis of the self-important, Hollywood "celebs" who compete for off-screen headlines nowadays. You have to admire him for that, if nothing else.

I somehow got roped into "Fortitude". Arctic mayhem mystery.
Weird acting. Just about done with season 1.

My wife was recommended a Brit comedy series called The IT Crowd. After a few minutes I was ready to bail. After 5 episodes we were in hysterics. Maybe we're starved for comedy...but...🤣

Netflix movie 'The White Tiger' (2021) was a thoroughly unexpected joy about a destitute young man in India trying to claw his way out of poverty by working for a rich, corrupt family. Definite 'Great Gatsby' meets 'Breaking Bad' overtones. --Highly recommend-- (I'd link the trailer but it gives too much away.)

I think I read that it ran 2006-2013. You can tell its dated, but I thought it has a Monty Pythonesque feel to it, with some very funny and well-timed schticks.

We got pulled into this on Netflix as it was a thriller/mystery, but there was one plot element that bugged me. However, it does have a very, very effective twist at the end. BTW the character "Adele" is Bono's daughter, but don't hold that against her. We watched this a couple of days ago. I lost interest fairly early on, but Mrs Ayns liked it. I didn't realise it was Bono's daughter. I didn't see the twist at the end coming, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a second series

If you like this, you should try Father Ted, from the same writers, about 10 years earlier, but for me one of the funniest sit coms of the last 30 years. It's still being repeated now, and I laugh as much as I did when it was first shown.

Yeah, Father Ted was the best, but it’s difficult to me to enjoy it like I did at the time, as it was so desperately sad that Dermot Morgan died the day after filming was completed.
The latest and final series of Unforgotten is, as per the prior ones, excellent. And the latest Line of Duty seems up to the previous high standard.
I’m also enjoying French detective series Spiral.

We are watching Line of Duty, having binge watched the previous 5 series over the last few months. I think it's the best TV series of the last 20 years or so.
I've never seen Unforgotten, but we are really struggling for something new/ good to watch, so will probably give it a go. Thanks.

Just came up on Prime streaming. It's in the "found footage" genre so be ready for hand held cameras. And it's from Norway so you will be reading subtitles (Please DON'T watch any English dubbed version, Prime runs it with the subtitles as it should be).
If you can get by all that, this is a real treat and I don't want to spoil any more for those who will enjoy it. Best not to read any reviews either, even positive ones. For those who "get it", this movie is a whole lot of fun. Stands up to repeated viewings too.

We stumbled across that one several years ago and found it entertaining.

Just a heads up, it leaves Prime Free streaming at the end of the month. Quirky dark humor more or less in the tradition of Snatch, Lock Stock and two smoking Barrels, Crank, Sexy beast, etc. There is violence and foul language throughout but with Colin Farrell, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walken and Tom Waits (who almost steals the movie) you can't go wrong if you like this sort of thing.

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned earlier, but we’ve been watching Turn , the story of Washington’s Spies. Great series. Much of it is true with some fiction sprinkled in . I honestly haven’t read or seen much on the revolutionary war , but I find this story captivating . Very well written.

I’m watching “L.A.’s Finest”, a pretty decent cop drama. Season 1 is on Nextflix, season 2 is coming next week.
Now, if you are one of these people who don’t like when female cops kick everyone’s ass because it’s not “realistic”, this one is not for you. If you are someone who understands TV isn’t always realistic, this one starts Jessica Alba and Gabrielle Union as two kick-ass LA detectives, each with their own personal baggage that adds to the drama.
It’s a Jerry Bruckheimer project, and it’s very well done. Great drama and action, with some comedic moments built in (they have a rivalry with another pair of detectives and they exchange jabs frequently).
I am a big fan of cop shows, not all of them land but in my opinion this one does. I’m enjoying it a lot.

Startup, Netflix, 2016-18. Crypto/darknet programmer plot and other crimes in Miami. A little cheesy at times but found bearable all in all.

"The Magnetic Monster" is a newly created radioactive element that feeds on electricity. If it gets too hungry, it magnetizes everything near it and causes an implosion. "Serious" science! Lots of great looking cars, 50's high tech gizmos and a super computer called M.A.N.I.A.C! Do your own MST3K while watching.
