I'd love to have an original rosewood Telecaster. Of course, an MIA version is not on the menu for me because they are so expensive and I am a relatively cheap guy. But I have one I assembled myself using a "take-off" MIJ Body from the Stratosphere when Matt Gibney was still reliablefender (the fake version with rosewood veneers on the front and back of a basswood body) and a solid rosewood Musikraft neck made to my specifications for the project. I decided I'd do it in the style of an early Nocaster instead of the usual late 60's specifications we are used to seeing. The hardware is all genuine Fender USA vintage reissue fare and the pickups are Custom Shop Nocasters. This guitar is light as a feather, unlike a "real" rosewood Telecaster which are usually quite heavy. Here are some pics for your enjoyment. Please show your rosewood Telecaster, if you have one.

Damn, Bobby, that's just lovely! Well done!

That looks good!
All the true RW Teles I've handled are boat anchors. Several writers on the subject of guitars, including Tony Bacon and Dave Hunter, have described the tone of an all-rosewood Tele as being a bit too unusual for Tele players in general. I don't know if that's true--they sound like a Telecaster to me--but they've just never gotten traction. I think they're not exactly popular because of the weight.
A RW top and back like yours is a great compromise between looks and weight.

That’s a great looking Tele for sure. I’m sure a real one would be much too heavy for me.

I found a homemade rosewood Tele in a shop years ago. The body was solid rosewood. I bet the guitar weighed 15 lbs.

I’ve never thought about doing a rosewood veneer. Very nice!

Very nice. Is that a maple skunk stripe?

Yes the skunk stripe and the headstock plug are maple. The fretboard markers and side dots are mother-of-pearl. The neck width is 1-11/16", the radius is 9.5" and the fretwire is Dunlop 6105.

Wow, that's a great looking guitar! I'd love one of the 1-piece rosewood necks, but lately have been jonesing on one of those roasted maple necks. Too many choices, not enough money. Lol!

Thanks, I think I'd like the feel of that. It looks excellent.

Very Nice! I always liked the looks of the rosewood tele's. A few years ago I build the strat version of that guitar... a four piece rosewood body with the maple stripe thru the middle (that limited how much you could carve the top) and a one piece neck with the flame maple skunk stripe. I did everything I could think of to make that guitar lighter! It was a brick and sounded stiff to me, I finally gave it away. Again, nice work!

I've never had one, but my brother had one. A Beatlemaniac, he got it because it was the "Rooftop Telecaster." Sorry I had to crop out the headstock, but the file was too big otherwise.

Dang Bobby....that is sweet...and it doesn't feel like yer carrying log!...
I sort of cheated with mine..not really a Rosewood tele but its close....accidentally came upon a Fender Rosewood veneer body..MIM I'm guessing, its a bit darker than yours...put an American Standard Neck on it and a set of Bardens (which I have since replaced with Fralin Split Blades)
I had the neck re fretted with stainless frets..so I figure I've got close to a grand into it.
this was my second attempt at a "rosewood tele"...the first body wax prettier but the clear coat started to delaminate, for lack of a better word...Man was I disappointed!!...so I sold it and got the body I have now...its about 8 lbs. give or take....plays and sounds fantastic....
