...also Paul Bigsby. I didn't realize that they had all been somewhat friends/acquaintances and had swapped ideas around, for a bit. Also there is a fair amount of complaining about the weight of LPs back then. Supposedly Buddy Holly traded his LP in for a Strat (when they first arrived) because he hated the heft of the Gibson. Les Paul comes across as a hyperactive, Type A, somewhat of a d**k.
Easy read, entertaining.

I read it a few months ago and loved it. Many interesting insights. I tried to get a few people here (over there) interested and could not drum up much enthusiasm. If you want some real insight into the birth & development of early Fender -- read it.

I read it about three months ago. Very surprised at how few Les Pauls were sold and how much of an impact the artists had on sales of the brands. After I read the book I took a walk through Dave’s private collection room in his Guitar shop in LaCrosse, Wi. He has walls of Strats, Teles, and Les Pauls arranged and labeled by year of production starting with the very first year they were made. Having just read the book and all of the history of each model made this an awesome experience. It was the live version of the history of rock and roll.
