When I first saw "Magnificent 7", I didn't know it was a western remake of Kurosawa's "7 Samurai".
I did see his "Yojimbo" before I ever saw "Fist Full of Dollars", though.
Having viewed an awful lot of old movies, I don't get caught off guard like this too often.

"The Last House on the Left" is actually a loose remake of Ingmar Bergman’s Best Foreign Film Academy Award winning, The Virgin Spring (1960), which in turn is based on the 13th-century Swedish ballad "Töre's daughters in Vänge".

As a kid, the first time I saw "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," it starred Spencer Tracy. My parents told me it was a remake of the one with Fredric March from 1931.
Parents! They were right about that too.

I love old movies and spend a good bit of time in the internet archives... archive.org/index.php there, i've noted there are several that have been made more than twice. it may take place in another era, but it's pretty much the same script.... the archives has a lot of music too... you guys would probably enjoy it.

For Years, I thought the the Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce "Sherlock Holmes" films of the late 1930s-1940s were the originals. In fact, others, starring other actors, had already been made in 1916, 1922 and 1932.

Rathbone will always be Holmes in my mind.
Til I really listened closely to the dialog and heard the dad say, "Tattaglia is a pimp. He never could have outfought Santino. But I didn't know until this day that it was Barzini all along", I never realized that "The Godfather" was a remake of "Bambi".

I didn't know "The Wicker Man" was a remake of a cult movie, I just thought it was the worst movie ever.
Because it was.
"Ahhh, my eyes!"
