I recently bought one of those Gibson Tribute Lester’s. Instead of a case or cheap gig bag it came with Gibson’s new soft case. At first I dismissed it , but it does seem to offer some protection. What do you guys think of them? Yay or nay?

It’s better than nothing. And I like it better than the gig bags they supplied with the early Tribs.
That’s a resounding “meh.”

Hadn't heard about them or seen them, so I had to search the innerwebs. If this is what you're referring to, I dig the look. Never seen them in person so I can't testify on how they protect. That said, I'd be nervous using a soft case for a Gibson considering their reputation for headstock breaks. I've toured the country and all through Mexico with bolt on neck guitars in soft cases with nary a worry. I can't say that I would be so worry free if I was touring with a Gibson in a soft case. Is this the one you're talking about? www.gibson.com/Gear/Electric-Cases/ASSFCASE

Thankfully my Tribute has a maple neck , but I was looking at an SG Standard that came with one and I’m like “Whaaaa?” I’m with leftee in the meh department . I’d think an SG Standard would get a case though.

Makes a very nice GigBag as it offers some protection but does not equal the protection of a case. My Gibson SG Standard came with one. I bought a brown Gibson Case for better protection

Gibsons need to be in a hard case if you're traveling, IMO.
But to store in the closet and play in the bedroom every now and then? A soft case is fine.

Gibson headstocks snap if you look at them the wrong way lol. I always use a hardshell case with them. I rarely leave them out of the case as opposed to strats and teles which are super durable.

Not an angled headstock owner so I can't swear I'd feel this way if I was but if it's built like the Mono cases, it will be well protected, no question.

It is a great padded soft case that I wouldn't have any qualms about taking a Fender in it but like other's here "every time I put a Gibson in one I heard a small voice from inside the case saying - I'm going to break my neck"

I wouldn't have any qualms about using one of those. I might worry a bit if I had to put it into the hands of airport personnel though, but I'm always a bit worried about that. I have the dreaded "chainsaw" case for mine. Can't ask for better protection but it's uncomfortable if you have to carry it very long. Maybe I'll get one of those soft ones...

The gigbag is well padded and ok for general use how ever i wish they would have added an external pocket to carry your strap. The one it has is so small and tight not much will fit.
I've resorted to wrapping my strap tightly with a rubber band (so the straplocks are behind the leather) and carrying it inside the general area beside the neck ... which amazingly has a lot of space !

I sold mine and got a Mono Vertigo case and love it. If I played out, I’d do this.

As soft cases go, this new one is not too bad. It has a neck support block and that goes a long way toward keeeping the headstock in the same place on the neck.
If you're transporting your guitar and nobody else is handling it, then a case like this is fine. A shoulder strap would be a nice addition so you could carry the case on your back. If you're transporting your guitar in a car trunk or trailer with other gear, these cases are not a good choice.
I have a few very nice thick leather cases like this; they have full neck support and a headstock box that provides good protection. These bags make it way easier to carry a guitar than in a hard case. Yeah, they're not as secure as a hard case, but for me it's worth the slightly increased risk. They're also half the weight of a hard case.
