Elvis would be 85 today. David Bowie would be 73 today. Robbie Krieger is 74 today.
The years...decades...march on and on and on.......

Elvis, his guitar players, Scotty Moore, and James Burton...they're who made me want to play guitar.
Did Burton play for Ricky Nelson? Ozzie and Harriet show. I waited to hear them play at the end.

JB also backed Ozzie (the Ozzie in Ozzie and Harriet)

I'm pretty sure that Elvis stole James Burton from Rick Nelson.

I'm pretty sure that Elvis stole James Burton from Rick Nelson. Henry, I kind of remember that. I certainly remember that telecaster sound. Scotty Moore and his P90s. My favorite guitars to this day...Tele and hollow body P90s! And a jazzmaster? My memory is not too good. Heck, I don’t have one of those. Good grief, look at Burton smile. Seductive, ain’t he. And he knows it! JDC, thank you! Those days really speak to me! Great Time!

I think I mentioned on the old FDP that (actual) Elvis assisted me on a call at the Roxy Theater on Sunset Blvd one night, when I worked West Hollywood. Nice guy who just happened by in his three car convoy.

Funny, I just watched 'Jailhouse Rock' (the movie) over the weekend. Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

I think I mentioned on the old FDP that (actual) Elvis assisted me on a call at the Roxy Theater on Sunset Blvd one night, when I worked West Hollywood. Nice guy who just happened by in his three car convoy. Did he sing? How did he assist you? thanks My partner and I were dispatched to a disturbance at the Roxy. Parking on Sunset Blvd on a Saturday night was nonexistent then, just as now, so we left the black and white on the median strip with the lights flashing and hoofed it across the boulevard. The disturbance turned out to be an obnoxious drunk. While we were dealing with him I heard that unmistakable voice behind me. "You boys need some help?" Apparently the King had spotted the flashing black and white in the middle of the street and directed his caravan to park behind it. He was dressed in his white karate outfit complete with "Elvis" stitched on the back, and a .45 auto stuck in the belt. "You fellas let me handle this," he said and crouched down to where the drunk had plopped down and seated himself against a wall. Lots of finger wagging and reading the guy the riot act. When he was done with that he and I spoke about karate a bit (I was taking lessons at the Chuck Norris dojo in Lakewood at the time). As I was talking to him in the dimly lit parking lot, I couldn't help but notice that his pupils were screwed down tight. The King on drugs? Nah... impossible! (the truth would emerge later) By now word had gotten out and the crowds were pushing in from the street. We shook hands and his bodyguards cut a swath through the people, who parted as if Charleton Heston was doing his Red Sea thing. Elvis climbed back into his limo and roared off with his convoy down Sunset. Because it was a contact with a celebrity, I had to notify the watch commander, but this was West Hollywood, after all, so it rated just another log entry.

Wasn't he "kind of" sticking his nose where it didn't belong... in official police matters?

Think of it as Elvis's version of a karaoke singer barging onto the bandstand, wanting to join the group for a set.
