So my office threw me a little send off for my retirement and I got a very generous gift card for guitar center. With the amount I was able to buy a Player Strat in surf pearl . I have been wanting one with a maple board and this is my first mexi Strat. I must say I am impressed. After I set up the guitar with 10s it plays great . I’ll do some minor tweaking as I go, but I am really impressed and think these guitars are really good. I’ll give a mini review after spending more time with it. Sweet guitar, reminds me of my maple-necked Tele in Surf Green. Play it in good health!

So I’ve had time to tweak this guitar and dial it in some more. I lowered the action ,lowered the relief to about .008 and adjusted the pickups. The fretwork was surprisingly good. No high frets and the intonation was spot on. The fretboard isn’t rolled , which isn’t a huge deal , but some might find it annoying.
The finish is superb and the color is gorgeous . Nice contrast with the maple neck and the mint pick guard ties it all in. The neck is satin on the back with a gloss fretboard. Standard tuners that keep it in tune quite well. The pick ups are decent and to my ears have a more modern tone to them. Less sparkle and quack than I’m used to ,but definitely stratty sounding. I may change them out at some point, but for now they are fine. Controls work as designed.
The weight of the guitar is just a shade under 8 lbs , which is very comfy. I plugged it into a drri and got some very nice tones. Definitely a bit thicker sounding than my 50 ri strats.
All in all I really like this guitar and am surprised how much the MIM line has stepped up in recent years. Count me very happy.

As sexy as a Strat gets. Have you tried lowering the middle pickup to get it to quack some more?

Did some tweaking today and ended up raising the neck pickup quite a bit. Big difference . I always hated the American Standard Modern C , but love this one. It must have to do with the nut width than the shape .

SHWEET!
I have Player Strat pickups in a custom build, and these are some of the nicest-sounding Strat pickups I have in my arsenal...which includes some Custom Shop stuff. I am blown away by how really good they sound and respond.
You got'cherself a really nice Strat there.

I’ve got a hard tail body built up and waiting for a neck. It has a set of these pickups as well. I need to get off my duff and get-r-dun.

These pickups are alot nicer than the ceramics they put on the old Mexican Standard and I like them alot better than the MIM Classic series too. Think 57/62s with more grit .

Nope , me either. Those ceramic pickups were nasty . Most ceramic pickups are gritty sounding to me. Only one I ever liked was the Reverend P-90’s
