Horrible loss. Apparently suffering for over 3 years. One of my heroes both for his playing, and his books. RIP professor ...

I recall the story after his family died and he disappeared for awhile, years in fact. It seems he spent the time riding his motorcycle ALL OVER North and South America.

Listening to ‘a farewell to kings’. I had the 12” Closer to the Heart single back in the day.
It’s a shame that it takes a death to make you delve into your collection.

I just looked it up. I didn’t know he was battling brain cancer. Glioblastoma. The same cancer that took out Gord Downie. RIP to one of the greatest drum composers in rock music history. I may only listen to Rush for a while.

Neil was a phenomenal drummer and will be sorely missed, another great gone too soon. His playing on Moving Pictures was amazing!

What a fantastic drummer he was, he will be remembered as one of the greatest of all time.
Rest in Peace Mr. Peart.

RIP Neil.

I've been listening to Rush since the late 70's, and feel fortunate that I got to see them.
Also read several of Neil's books.
This is one of those things that make you feel your own mortality creeping up on you.

Huge Rush fan. I appreciated his thought provoking lyrics and loved his drumming. Most folks rank him 3rd behind Moon and Bonham but I think he was more articulate and aggressive than either one.
He'll be missed. Gotta be devastating for Geddy and Alex even though they knew it was inevitable.
RIP

In a documentary he said this song was the hardest to get right. They were able to pull this song off live, how? Geddy playing bass, keys and singing. Three very talented musicians, like the band or not.

I'm always hesitant to say one person was THE greatest of anything, especially involving music. Peart was definitely one of the greats but there are others as notable; (in no particular order) Buddy Rich, Keith Moon, John Bonham, Dave Grohl, Ringo Starr, Ginger Baker, Hal Blaine, Max Roach and most of the jazz drummers of the 70's.

Good list. I'll my add my favorite, Phil Earhart. Absolutely! One would have to be a phenomenal drummer to play with Kansas.
In fact, many of the drummers from the 70's were great; Alex Van Halen, Steve Smith (Journey), Cliff Davies (Ted Nugent), Levon Helm (The Band), John Panozzo (Styx), Bill Ward (Sabbath), Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson), Phil Collins (Genesis), et al.

Here's an excellent video hosted by Neil. Worth the watch. I didn't know he relearned to play drums in the 90s.

I live close to "Lakeside Park". Neil worked there as a teen. It's between Niagara Falls and Toronto. Geddy said that he hates the song, but knowing the park and hearing the song makes you visualize everything in it. I think it's a great song! I also regularly drive past the spot where his daughter was killed in a car accident. Very sad day.

Another boomer bites the dust. 67 these days is not old!! (says a 71 yr old). But maybe now I can learn how to pronounce his last name. Is it pear-t, pert, peer-t, par-t. Forgive my ignorance, I just never hear people say it.

Mostly play Fender guitars and amps. I'm 71 and have had a guitar since 1964. Got serious in 1975.
