Amway is being sued for ripping off the suckers pulled into the "independent owner" marketing scheme. (I'll pause here to let you recover from shock.)
The lawsuit contends that the worker bees, laboring to recruit more of the gullible to the pyramid shaped hive of the corporation, are actually employees, not individual entrepreneurs.
The plaintiffs say that the only way to succeed in the family-owned enterprise, is by recruiting more suckers, not in selling Amway products. Thus, their "job" is to simply add suckers, not sales. They should be paid a minimum wage, is their complaint.
This comes about as a new law makes it harder for corporations to classify their employees as independent contractors.
(Remember when the corporate gambit to avoid paying overtime, was to simply reclassify every burger flipper in the restaurant as an "assistant manager"?)
Amway paid out $55 million a class action lawsuit prior to this one, which was a drop in the bucket. Amway doesn't sell buckets, by the way.

This is not news, unfortunately. I had a pal many years ago who got pulled into this scheme and got brainwashed. His training included getting into the habit of calling it his "business" instead of Amway. This--in order to not send people running to the hills. Needless to say, in about six months all of his friends including myself had voted him off our island. He got a whole new set of 'friends' that were in tha business. These multi-level marketing (MLM) business models are crap, and much like driving for Uber and Lyft, they craftily take advantage of the Little Guy who becomes the driver. Amsoil is the same way. My opinion. Your Uber mileage may vary

I've NEVER been approached by someone selling Amway who wanted to sell me actual product.

I had a few clients who were successful in the Amway scheme. They were doing quite well, pretty much everyone in their downline, not so much.
This was back in the late 80's. Good to know it hasn't changed much.

Which is why I've always referred to it as "Scamway".
Oh, and the other *company* like it is "Quacklee".
(Remember when a phony doctor was a "quack"?)

Many years back while early in my Air Force career, I learned a great deal about positive thinking and goal setting in the Amway organization; earned a little extra money and enjoyed many of the products as well...attitude is everything.
