But we're not excited about it - ugh! A member of my church is taking my wife and I (again this year) to the big Lutefisk fundraiser over at the Lutheran Church - ya, you betcha! Sigh. Anyway, I'll eat some lutefisk; my wife will stick with the meatballs. Reminds me of the kind of cross-cultural dietary experiences many missionaries have endured in the name of love over the centuries... Lutefisk, anyone?

A woman I used to work with was from Minnesota and of Norwegian descent, and she would occasionally talk about - or even consume - Lutefisk. Uff da! I never had the chance to try it.
She did make some lefse that I tried, though, and it was fine.

I'm of Swedish heritage. My ancestors took advantage of the Homestead Act and immigrated to Nebraska in the late 19th century. My family has mostly escaped farming and have siblings and cousins that have moved east to west and north to south.
My siblings are now in CA (San Diego and Fresno). In recent years, we have been meeting in my niece's place in San Diego for Christmas. They tell me that you can't find it there. But they always seem to find potato sausage.
One tradition that we held was to offer a prospective family member lutefisk. They were judged on the gracefulness of the answer, not yes or no.
In my adulthood, I found that applying a mustard sauce (the kind you might find in a Chinese restaurant) made it tolerable and maybe desirable.

Here in Wisconsin we’d say, “sucks to be you, eh?”.

Does it come with unlimited salad and bread sticks? If so, count me in!

I politely decline with the other (suddenly converted) vegetarians.
