My bride was stuck in the UK when this covid thing hit big time. After searching for the least risky way to get her from Bristol England to Madison, we booked a one-way Bristol-Dublin-Chicago-Madison routing for March 24 departure on Aer Lingus, the Irish carrier. A benefit of that routing is that she could clear US customs and immigration in Dublin before boarding the Chicago flight -- so would avoid O'Hare immigration hall, which was a mess. She arrived at Bristol airport the day of departure with her bags all set to check in, and was told her flight to Dublin was cancelled, all service to Dublin was cancelled, covid you see, and they could not help her. Meanwhile we had paid $965 for the ticket, which despite my getting on it right away, remains unrefunded to this day. I purchased the ticket using orbitz.com -- and got the runaround from everyone, including my credit card when I contested the charge. Dove back into it today. Spent 90 minutes on the phone with Orbitz and seems that maybe I am making some headway. Aer Lingus clearly cancelled the flight but still shows in on "check-in" in their records. They are working on changing the status -- Orbitz says that will permit them to refund -- but it will take four to six weeks for it to show up back on my card. Anyway, I have to call Orbitz back tomorrow to continue to move this forward. So, basically, since late March, I've been Orbitz' and Aer Lingus' bank. Not happy, but maybe this is on the way to be resolved. Meanwhile, KLM still owes us $650 for another try to get her home that was cancelled (Bristol-Amsterdam-Detroit-Madison). In the end, we got her home in late April on a British Airways London-Chicago direct flight and I drove down to O'Hare (a very empty O'Hare) to meet her.

I have nothing to offer but as an aside, Aer Lingus sounds dirty to me.

Yeah, Aer Lingus sounds like some sort of Mile High Club thing.

Well at least you got your bride back! You can't put a price on that.

The positive is that you are a lawyer so you have gotten farther than us mere mortals could! But good luck getting your money back.

According to Irish lore, Aer Lingus predates hot tubs and for a very good reason.
To adhere to PG, let's just say that "ye canna blow yer pipes in the face of tarndoodle craic even were it lashing; tis brock unless ye's a melter."
Enough said.

965.00 You could have purchased a guitar and amp, and waited a week or so...

965.00 You could have purchased a guitar and amp, and waited a week or so... Having read Jimmy's posts for years now I can imagine his "Bride" is worth far more than his guitars to him

2020 is a write off.
Our three weeks in Tuscany in May and June had to be canceled. The good news is our deposits were all refunded. Except British Air. They returned my wife's complete amount but kept about $200 of my air fare even though our flight was cancelled and they acknowledged it. Talking with an actual person at Brit Air is like winning the lottery. They are very nice and polite, but never do what they say they promise to do.
Keep pounding away Jimmy...although at some point they want you to realize they have your money and will wait you out...don't quit.

My wife had a couple flights canceled this summer. There’s fine print in the agreement that you sign (but don’t read) that basically says the airlines have no actual obligation to transport you.
She ended up disputing the charge through Visa and promptly got a refund.

This is exactly why I refuse to use air and hotel aggregators. I’ve found them to be impossible to deal with when things go bad, and the airlines and hotels in question don’t really care because you aren’t their client.

She ended up disputing the charge through Visa and promptly got a refund. I contested the charge through Barclay's Bank American Airlines Aviator MasterCard -- the card on which the charge was made - got some lame-ass excuse because it is "covid-related" they would not reverse the charge. That card will soon get cut up and placed in the trash -- as soon as Aer Lingus finally refunds.
