Has anyone here ever bought a guitar from Japan through eBay? If so, how did it work out?
The thing that bothers me is sometimes there will be multiple listings of the same guitar, with identical pictures, from different sellers. I read somewhere that it is because there are a lot of guys that will list their local guitar shop's inventory on eBay as middlemen, and the first one to sell it will go and buy it and then ship it to the eBay buyer.
I'm also worried about customs, do the guitars get hung up in customs, or hit with a bunch of duty fees on top of the shipping fees?

I've bought a few Fender guitars on eBay from Japanese sellers. I have never had a problem. And never a customs issue. But you should vet any seller by checking feedback, both relative to the seller and feedback left by the seller. You can't be too careful. Of course, returns are problematic due to the expense, so be sure you want what you buy because it will cost you to make a return.

Do you mean from those Ebay listings from Japan where the price is 30% above the average price of other listings? I'm sorry, I don't need any piece of equipment that badly. I wouldn't buy any instrument from a foreign seller. I don't think it is worth the possible issues/hassles.

I bought a MIJ Tele about 15 years ago. It went well. A week later, I was laid off and had to sell it.

Once, by accident. Was a good transaction and a nice guitar.

I am curious as Clapton Custom Shop Strats are popular there.
I usually ignore any attractive eBay offers from Japan, as I assume complications or risks.

The prices seem pretty reasonable. I am looking at a couple of Orville Les Pauls. They're really hard to find here in the US, and the prices I've seen from US sellers is quite a bit above what the Japanese listings are going for. Suppy/demand, I suppose.

The feedback ratings seem acceptable for the sellers on the listings I'm looking at.
